The popular and quirky show Wednesday returned to streaming screens earlier in 2025, and its second season continued to be a standout binge-worthy series on Netflix, leaving viewers with plenty to think about. The show has already featured some well-known guest stars, and Catherine Zeta-Jones has expressed interest in having Danny DeVito from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia join the cast in a future season.
The actress who plays Morticia Addams isn’t just hoping Danny DeVito might join the project; she has a specific and fantastic idea for his role. Of course, that’s assuming he’d want to be involved.
I was so excited to see Catherine Zeta-Jones at the Wednesday FYC event! It was great seeing her with Jenna Ortega and the rest of the cast. She even jokingly wondered out loud why Tony Shalhoub hadn’t been cast on the show sooner – like, what took them so long?! It was a fun moment, and she really seemed to think he’d be perfect for it.
It’s surprising Danny DeVito hasn’t been cast in the show yet, especially since I actually know him – my husband used to room with him. I recently saw him in New York in September and kept thinking he’d be perfect for ‘Wednesday’.
It’s a really good question that people will probably debate for a long time, like they do with questions such as ‘Who watches the Watchmen?’ or ‘Who wrote the book of love?’ and even the classic ‘What, me worry?’ Seriously though, why wasn’t Danny DeVito in the show Wednesday?

Catherine Zeta-Jones didn’t have to think twice about which character she wanted to play – it was a perfect fit, and she was excited about it. As she put it:
Oh no, Cousin Itt is going to be furious with me! He’ll probably say something like, ‘So you’re the one who suggested I play a role where they cover my whole face in hair? Thanks a lot, Catherine!’ It would be amazing if Danny DeVito played Cousin Itt, though – that would be really cool.
Wouldn’t it be amazing to see Danny DeVito appear on Wednesday as a massive creature made of hair? He’s actually a pretty good height for the role, and considering his history with bizarre situations on It’s Always Sunny, it doesn’t seem like a stretch for him to wear a full-body hair suit. The only real concern would be keeping it dry and away from messy food – the golden rule for hair suits is definitely to avoid water and condiment-covered sandwiches!
While Danny DeVito as Cousin Itt seems like a great idea, there would be a couple of downsides. First, we wouldn’t be able to hear his voice, as Cousin Itt only communicates through high-pitched squeaks, similar to the Muppet Beaker. Second, DeVito’s expressive physical acting would be largely hidden, since his head would be covered.
If the creators of Wednesday want to keep Cousin Itt looking exactly as he has in the past, they could cast a different actor, perhaps one who isn’t as recognizable as Danny DeVito. Alternatively, the writers could find a way to introduce the character without the full hair covering, which might also work.
Since we’re considering new headmasters, how about Michael Douglas – Catherine Zeta-Jones’ husband – taking over with a strict approach? Alternatively, he could play Cousin Itt, while Danny DeVito could be in charge at Nevermore Academy.
The first two seasons of Wednesday can be streamed in full via Netflix subscription.
