Jesse Eisenberg’s life as a dad is full of magic.
Having learned a lot of magic tricks while filming Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, the actor has been happily teaching them to his 8-year-old son, Banner, and his wife, Anna Strout.
Jesse told TopMob News at the New York City premiere that their child is a big fan of magic. They’re about to watch ‘Now You See Me: Now You Don’t,’ and then they plan to watch the other ‘Now You See Me’ movies in order – starting with the second one, and finishing with the original.
The 42-year-old playfully mentioned his child believed they had magical powers immediately, even though they hadn’t practiced any magic at all.
He chuckled, saying, “I’ll spend time developing a magic trick, perform it, and then my child will often just finish it off, assuming their ending is just as effective.”
Jesse has picked up many magic skills for the Now You See Me movies, but he’s particularly proud of a basic trick he mastered for the very first film: the Snap Change.
The trick is a fast card switch – you show one card, and it instantly seems like you’re holding a different one. The Oscar nominee said it was a simple move, but took months of practice to perfect.

Even though it was a simple skill, he felt good knowing it, because while it wasn’t anything special, he understood it just as well as anyone else.
The movie not only motivated him to perform magic for his family and friends, but also inspired a selfless act – he recently donated a kidney. This generosity all began with something he experienced while filming the original movie.
Jesse remembered a scene where the actors, secured in harnesses, were lifted high above the stage. They essentially flew up to the ceiling. Just before a scheduled break, Jesse asked the special effects team if they could stay suspended in the air a little longer, saying they enjoyed the view from up there.
Jesse shared that while he’s always been afraid of heights, he didn’t feel scared while up high because he was focused on his work. He explained, “I was up there for the role—filming a movie.”

He explained that he’d always been afraid of needles, so he decided to try donating blood. He figured having a meaningful reason – helping others – might overcome his fear. It turned out he was right; donating blood actually made him lose his fear of needles.
It felt natural for him to then focus on helping others, such as by donating a kidney.
He explained that when he’s focused on a goal or actively working on something, he doesn’t second-guess himself.
Find out what motivated Jesse to overcome his fears in Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, coming to theaters on November 14th. Plus, discover other exciting movies coming soon to a cinema near you!
