During Sony’s recent State of Play, Koei Tecmo announced that Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly is getting a remake and will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on March 12, 2026. The remake will update the gameplay of the original horror game, first released on PlayStation 2 in 2003. You can watch the new trailer below.
The game remake was originally announced in September, and the latest trailer confirms it will center on the story of twin sisters, Mio and Mayu Amakura. They return to a familiar forest near Minakami and stumble upon a deserted village. They soon realize the village is haunted, and their only chance of survival lies with a strange device called the Camera Obscura.
The remake of Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly will have updated gameplay, graphics, and sound. A new feature, ‘Holding Hands With Mayu,’ will let players feel the close connection between the two sisters in the game.
