Fans of Jujutsu Kaisen are eagerly awaiting Season 3, set to premiere in January 2026. With the manga now finished since last September, the anime adaptation isn’t far behind. MAPPA, the animation studio, has consistently improved with each season of Jujutsu Kaisen, so excitement for Season 3 is incredibly high. This new season is especially important because it sets the stage for the story’s final conflict with the main villains. Season 2’s “Shibuya Incident Arc” was filled with intense and shocking moments that dramatically altered the world of Jujutsu Kaisen. The upcoming season will explore the consequences of that arc and show how power dynamics have shifted within the Jujutsu world.
The new Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution film not only revisits the events of the Shibuya Incident, but also kicks off Season 3 with the first two episodes adapting the Extermination Arc from the manga. This arc centers around Yuta Okkotsu – who has returned to Japan, seemingly as a foe – alongside Yuji Itadori, Choso, and a captivating new villain. While early reactions to these episodes have been largely positive, some viewers are worried about the speed at which the story is unfolding, a concern that hasn’t gotten enough attention.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Might Suffer From Poor Pacing

The third season of Jujutsu Kaisen will cover significantly more of the manga than previous seasons. It’s planned to be released in two parts and will likely adapt the entire Culling Game arc. While the exact number of episodes isn’t known yet, it’s expected to be around 26, which means MAPPA studio will need to fit 84 chapters into a single season. For comparison, the first season adapted 64 chapters, ending with the Death Painting Arc, at a more relaxed pace.
Season 2 moved at a similar speed to the first, despite having 73 chapters, because it didn’t include the ‘Juju Strolls’ segments. However, Season 3 could have issues if it doesn’t have at least 30 episodes, or if the final parts of the ‘Culling Game Arc’ are saved for a later season. According to a well-known Jujutsu Kaisen update account (@Go_Jover on X), the second episode of Season 3 will cover up to chapter 144, adapting 7 chapters across two episodes – a consistent rate of progression.
The anime is likely to face issues with Episodes 3 and 4, as they’re planned to cover a large portion of the story – 14 chapters of the Perfect Preparation Arc. To move the story forward quickly to the Culling Game, some scenes might have to be shortened or altered. Season 2 already caused concern due to difficult working conditions at MAPPA, leading to production problems. Covering so much material in each episode will put even more pressure on the animators, potentially causing similar dissatisfaction with the studio again.
