Twice-Canceled Comedy Series Finds New Streaming Home (And It’s Just as Good as You Remember)

Streaming services are giving canceled shows a second life, and that’s great news for a popular comedy that ended prematurely. Like other streamers, Netflix recently updated its catalog with many new shows and movies, including a well-loved comedy that was actually canceled twice!

Starting November 4th, both seasons of the 1970s comedy Minx are available to stream on Netflix. The show follows a young feminist who teams up with a struggling publisher to create the first erotic magazine aimed at women. Originally developed as an HBO Max original and debuting in 2022, Minx quickly gained critical acclaim. While HBO renewed the show for a second season, it was unexpectedly canceled mid-production. Luckily, Starz picked up the series, releasing Season 2 in July 2023. However, Minx was canceled again in 2024, this time for good.

Minx Is a Must-Watch Comedy

I was genuinely bummed when Minx got cancelled – it really deserved to run much longer. The show was such a clever idea – a feminist teaming up to start an erotic magazine – and it managed to be both hilarious and surprisingly insightful. It explored female sexuality and empowerment in a really fresh way, and even though it’s set in the 1970s, it still feels incredibly relevant today. Beyond that, it was just a really well-written and engaging show, largely thanks to the fantastic chemistry between its leads. The dynamic between the uptight, idealistic Joyce and the somewhat-shady but ultimately good-hearted Doug was comedy gold, and it fueled the show’s central conflict so brilliantly.

Despite not attracting a large audience, the series Minx received widespread critical acclaim. It boasts a 93% average critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, with both seasons earning a “Certified Fresh” designation – 98% for season one and 89% for season two. Kelly Connolly of TV Guide called it “a bouncy, feel-good show that captures the joy of building something from nothing,” while Meghan O’Keefe at Decider praised Minx as “effervescently fun, heartfelt, intelligent, and full of potential.”

What’s New on Netflix?

Netflix added a lot of new content in November! Two new shows, Minx and all three seasons of Broadchurch, joined the platform. Several returning and new original series also premiered, including the second season of Squid Game: The Challenge, The Vince Staples Show, and the first volume of Sesame Street. Movie fans can enjoy popular titles like Back to the Future, Charlie’s Angels, Doctor Sleep, and The Hangover. Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein is currently a big hit on Netflix’s movie list.
