Fans who were left wondering what would happen after the first season of Alien: Earth will be happy to hear the show is continuing! Alien: Earth was the first television series based on the Alien franchise, which began with Ridley Scott’s classic 1979 film starring Sigourney Weaver. The new series is set two years before the events of that original movie and shows that the Weyland-Yutani corporation already knew about the Xenomorphs and other alien creatures. However, the show reveals that the aliens themselves aren’t the greatest danger.
After the first season of Alien: Earth ended with the human-synthetic Hybrids, led by Wendy (Sydney Chandler), taking over the Prodigy facility, it wasn’t certain if the show would return. But on November 11, 2025, FX announced that Alien: Earth has been renewed for a second season. Given the show’s popularity – it has a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes – renewal was widely expected. Noah Hawley’s new contract with FX and Disney Entertainment Television suggests the show could continue for several more seasons.
What to Expect From Alien: Earth Season 2
Season two of Alien: Earth will be filmed in London instead of Thailand, hinting at a more urban storyline. We can also expect to see more of the jungles of Neverland Island, which serves as the show’s headquarters. Filming is planned to begin next year, with a potential release in 2027. The first season started filming in July 2023 but was put on hold due to the actors’ and writers’ strikes, finally finishing in mid-July 2024. The ending of season one suggests that season two will continue the story right where it left off.
FX chairman John Landgraf shared that working with Noah for over ten years on some of their most successful shows has been a pleasure, and they’re excited to continue their collaboration for years to come. Landgraf praised Noah’s consistently original storytelling and his remarkable talent as a writer, director, and producer. They are eager to begin the next season of Alien: Earth and are also developing other promising projects.
Given the success of shows like Fargo and Legion, FX was eager to continue working with Noah Hawley, and he felt the same way. Hawley appreciates FX’s commitment to strong, character-focused stories and is excited to continue developing Alien: Earth with the same team. The second season of Alien: Earth has the potential to connect even more closely with the original Alien films, potentially featuring references to or appearances by the crew of the Nostromo, which would firmly establish the series within the broader Alien franchise.
