Kurt Russell will be back for season two of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. He plays Lee Shaw as an older man, and his son, Wyatt Russell, portrays the character when he was younger.
The first season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters concluded with the elder Shaw making a selfless choice: he stayed behind to repair a problem with the portal. Unfortunately, he fell from the ship and into Hollow Earth, leaving viewers uncertain about his survival for the next season.
Apple TV recently shared a behind-the-scenes look at the making of season 2. The video features a smiling Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso) saying, “You aren’t getting rid of me that easily!” The video is titled “The mission isn’t over. Everything changes tomorrow,” and ends with a dramatic monster roar. You can watch it here:
The video isn’t new; filming for season 2 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters finished back in March. Now that production is done, Wyatt Russell’s return has been confirmed, and Apple TV has teased something big with the phrase “Everything changes tomorrow,” we can expect more announcements soon – possibly a release date or a trailer.
Like the first season, the new season will have 10 episodes. Russell will be back, along with returning cast members Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamato, Joe Tippett, and Anders Holm for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2.
This series is set within the world of Godzilla and Kong, focusing on the secret organization called Monarch that studies these giant creatures, known as Titans. The story jumps between two timelines, showing Shaw at different ages, because of his important role within Monarch.
Besides the second season of Monarch, the MonsterVerse has a new movie in the works called Godzilla x Kong: Supernova. It’s set to hit theaters on March 26, 2027, and will be directed by Grant Sputore. The film stars Kaitlyn Dever, Dan Stevens, Jack O’Connell, Delroy Lindo, Matthew Modine, Sam Neill, and Alycia Debnam-Carey.
