SNES Trilogy Returning With First New Game Since 1993

After a 33-year wait, a classic series that last appeared on the Super Nintendo in 1993 is returning with a new game on March 19, 2026. The game will be available on Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X. Developed by City Connection and Clear River Games, this is the fourth installment in the series. Currently, there are no plans to remake or re-release the original three games.

The Rushing Beat series—known as Rival Turf in the US—started in 1992 with a game developed and published by Jaleco, a company that went out of business in 2014. Originally released only for the Super Nintendo, it was later made available on the Wii and Wii U through the Virtual Console. Brawl Brothers followed as a sequel the same year, and The Peace Keepers completed the trilogy in 1993. All three games were exclusive to the SNES, weren’t very popular, and didn’t receive great reviews. So, it’s quite unexpected to see the series return now, especially with a brand new game!

The New Game

The game Rushing Beat X: Return of Brawl Brothers is launching globally on March 19, 2026. The developers say it’s been completely updated for today’s gamers, though some players are wary of such overhauls. It won’t play like the classic beat ’em ups from the 1990s.

The game lets you play as two characters, Rick Norton and Douglas Bild, who join forces with other heroes to stop a villain and his dangerous virus plot. The story is fairly simple, as the game focuses more on action and gameplay – a common trait shared with the original games and most beat ’em ups, both old and new.

Fans who remember playing the original games seem excited, judging by how many people liked the YouTube trailer. However, reading the comments reveals a lot of criticism about the game’s updated graphics. Many feel the new visuals, while different from the originals, aren’t an improvement.
