After the unexpected cancellation of the fantasy series The Wheel of Time earlier this year, actress Rosamund Pike has shared her thoughts on why the show ended.
As a huge fan of Robert Jordan’s books, I was so excited about the fantasy series, and Rosamund Pike absolutely blew me away as Moiraine Damodred. What’s really cool is she’s been a really vocal supporter of the show, which is awesome to see!
Prime Video has canceled the series after careful consideration, primarily due to financial factors, as reported by Deadline.
Looking back on the show’s cancellation, Pike acknowledged that the first season wasn’t strong enough, and production faced challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, she felt that by season three, the show had significantly improved, becoming well-acted, well-written, and compelling, even attracting well-known actors for guest roles.
She suggested the show’s cancellation likely stemmed from the industry’s constant desire for new content. In an interview with Collider, she explained that networks often cancel existing shows simply to promote new ones, despite having a dedicated audience.

After the show was cancelled, its creator, Rafe Judkins, asked other streaming services to consider continuing it.
Pike expressed hope that another studio might revive the show, saying they’ve assembled a fantastic team and know how to finish the story well. They feel confident they could deliver a strong conclusion based on the source material. However, Pike also acknowledged that they likely need to accept the show is finished.
Following the cancellation of The Wheel of Time, many people involved with the show publicly expressed their disappointment.
Fans have started a petition asking another streaming service to revive the show, and it has already gathered over 227,000 signatures.
The petition is directed at companies like Sony Pictures Television and Prime Video, highlighting the show’s positive reviews, enthusiastic fanbase, and strong viewership numbers.
It also praises the show’s dedication to diversity and inclusion, and its loyal fan base.
