It’s been eight years since the popular second season of Big Little Lies aired. The show originally gained acclaim as an adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s novel.
In September, news broke that a third season was officially being developed. Francesca Sloane, who co-created and ran ‘Mr & Mrs Smith,’ will be writing the first episode.
Not much has been revealed about the upcoming season yet, but Laura Dern and Jayme Lemons, who both star in and produce Palm Royale, recently shared some insights about coming back for season two.
You won’t believe this, but Laura Dern was playfully hinting at something really fun! She and a bunch of her incredibly talented female friends have a group chat, and they’re all thrilled about working together as much as possible. It sounds like a blast, and I’m already excited to see what they’re up to!
Dern will be joining Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman again for this project. They’re all also executive producers, along with the show’s creator, David E. Kelley, and Sloane.
I’m really excited to see what Laura Dern and her partner, Jaywalker Pictures, are up to next! They’ve got a bunch of things in the works, like Palm Royale, and something totally different – a HBO series called The Dolls, which is based on the wild true story of the Christmas Eve riots at a Walmart in Arkansas. It sounds absolutely bonkers and I can’t wait!

We see a lot of great stories that could be turned into movies or shows, but it’s tough to choose which ones to pursue,” Lemons explained. “Getting a project made is a long and difficult process, so you have to carefully consider what will resonate with audiences in the future, because by the time it’s finished, things could be very different. Luckily, there are countless books to choose from.
You know, talking to Laura Dern recently, she highlighted something really fascinating about her process. She told me that certain news articles have actually sparked ideas for projects she’s currently developing. She described reading these incredible pieces by talented journalists – stories so unbelievable they practically demanded to be turned into something real. And that, she said, is a truly exciting feeling – that drive to bring those unbelievable truths to life on screen.
The pair are excited about the upcoming second season of their Apple TV+ show, Palm Royale, calling it a wonderful experience to work with the cast again.
Laura Dern recently shared that she and Kristen Wiig discussed how their characters, Maxine and Linda, despite living very different lives and being far apart, both discover what truly matters most to them this season. It’s a common theme, even with all the chaos happening around them.
I think that friendship is the most genuine one in the whole show. They’d do absolutely anything for each other, and I love how different they are, yet they’re so close.
You can now watch season 2 of Palm Royale on Apple TV+, with fresh episodes released every Wednesday. Subscribe to Apple TV+ to start watching!
