Howard Gordon, who led the creative team for the popular Fox series 24, has announced they are working on bringing the show back.
In a recent interview with Deadline about his new Netflix show, The Beast, Gordon responded to comments made by Kiefer Sutherland regarding a potential script that could bring back his iconic character, Jack Bauer, and relaunch the 24 series.
He confirmed they are currently working on something, but stated that Disney, now owning the rights to the show after acquiring 20th Television (previously 20th Century Fox Television), hasn’t officially decided whether to bring it back.
He shared that he really misses that show, and believes Kiefer Sutherland feels the same way. They struggled for a long time to come up with a good idea for a continuation that felt promising and could really work. This new idea feels potentially viable, but it’s still just in the early stages and nothing is confirmed yet.
He explained his hesitation about rejoining the series, saying he doesn’t want a return to result in a bad product. He feels it wouldn’t be fair to the show, the audience, or even to himself if it didn’t live up to expectations.
It needs to be something you feel a connection to, or at least convince yourself you do. It might not work out, but you have to believe it has potential.

Gordon also pointed to HBO Max’s The Pitt as a successful example of a show using a live, in-the-moment style, even though it’s a different type of program.
24 first aired in 2001 and continued for nine seasons, plus a special two-hour movie. The show centered on Jack Bauer, a federal agent who fights terrorism, and his team as they worked to keep the United States safe from attacks.
I’m so excited – ’24’ is now streaming on Disney+! I just signed up myself, and it’s really affordable – only £4.99 a month, or you can get a whole year for £89.90. Definitely worth it if you’re a fan!
