It may seem similar to Minecraft, but this game is adding exciting new features to the Pokémon world, including fresh looks for fan-favorite Pokémon like Pikachu and Snorlax from the very first generation.
In this new crafting game, you play as a Ditto with the unique ability to transform into a human. Your goal is to restore the world and assist the local Pokémon by building charming towns and helping anyone who needs it.
Pokémon Pokopia Has New Pikachu & Snorlax Forms
A longer trailer for the game Pokémon Pokopia is now available on the official Pokémon YouTube channel. The trailer offers a more detailed look at the game, but the biggest surprise came at the end: viewers saw a Smeargle covered in paint, a grey Pikachu, and a Snorlax covered in moss with a flower growing on its head.
The Pokémon Company has revealed new names for some Pokémon: the grey Pikachu is now called Peakychu, the green Snorlax is Mosslax, and the dirty Smeargle is Smearguru. These new forms are expected to appear in the upcoming game, Pokémon Pokopia, which is scheduled to be released on March 5, 2026. We can likely expect even more new Pokémon variations to be announced before the game’s release.
What’s Different About Peakychu, Mosslax, and Smearguru?
These newly discovered Pokémon seem to have different types than before. Although it hasn’t been officially announced, many believe Peakychu is a Ghost-type, and its black and white coloring might be a nod to older Game Boy games. Mosslax is almost certainly a Grass-type Snorlax, covered in plants after sleeping for a long time. Smearguru’s type is less obvious, but it could be Fairy, since Fairy-type Pokémon are usually very colorful.
I’m really excited about how Pokopia lets you team up with other Pokémon who can actually teach you new moves! It’s awesome because these moves are all about exploring and interacting with the world around you. The developers have said that these new Pokémon types won’t affect competitive battling right away, which is a relief – they’re focusing on making the exploration side of things really special first.
The main question now is whether we’ll see these new Pokémon forms in the core video games. While it’s highly likely they’ll eventually appear in Pokémon Go – the game includes almost all Pokémon at some point – it might take longer for the main series games to incorporate these unusual remixes of original Gen 1 Pokémon.
