If you’re looking forward to the next main Horizon game, you’ll likely have to wait until Guerrilla Games releases its planned online game first.
This is a different game than the recently announced Horizon Steel Frontiers for PC and mobile devices. Both this game and another multiplayer Horizon project from Guerrilla Games will be released before the developers continue Aloy’s story in the third main Horizon game.
I was seeing some confusion online, but Jason Schreier from Bloomberg cleared things up! He said the new NCSoft MMO, Horizon, isn’t the same as the multiplayer Horizon game Guerrilla Games is working on. That Guerrilla one is still their big project, just to be clear.
Guerrilla Games has been openly developing a new multiplayer game for a while, and many players expect it to be similar to Monster Hunter. Reports from as early as 2022 indicate the game will feature a unique art style and new characters, with developers who previously worked on Rainbow Six: Siege contributing to the project.
Guerrilla Games announced today they’re developing new experiences within the Horizon universe, and a new online game is part of those plans. They promised to share more details soon.
It’s likely the next Horizon game will be a single-player experience similar to Horizon 3, but it won’t arrive until after two multiplayer Horizon projects are released. Combined with rumors of the PlayStation 6 launching in 2027, we might see a next-generation Horizon game featuring Aloy’s story sometime after that.
