Superman has battled many dangerous villains, but Lex Luthor’s newest creation is unlike anything he’s faced before. Throughout his career, the Man of Steel has overcome incredibly powerful enemies, including alien invaders and god-like destroyers. While Superman always manages to win, he occasionally encounters an opponent who truly pushes him to his limits. As we’ve seen with Doomsday, even a hero as strong as Superman isn’t invincible.
It takes incredible power to harm Superman, but kryptonite is his weakness. Now, the DC Universe has several new and dangerous types of kryptonite. These aren’t your standard green rocks – they have strange effects, like messing with Superman’s perception of time or even turning him into a giant monster. Lex Luthor has been closely monitoring all of this, collecting data and preparing his most powerful weapon yet, designed to finally defeat Superman.
Lex Luthor’s New Kryptonite Man is Here to Destroy Superman

Trouble begins in Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum #4, written by W. Maxwell Prince and illustrated by Martin Morazzo. While Superman is unexpectedly pulled into the Fifth Dimension by the mischievous Mr. Mxyzptlk, Lex Luthor is busy with a dangerous new plan. He and his assistant, Dr. Hamilton, are examining the progress made with three newly discovered types of kryptonite, alongside the ones they already knew about. Lex is using all of these in a project called M.O.K., which has already resulted in the deaths of two test subjects. However, Lex believes he’s finally figured out how to finish his grand scheme.
Lex Luthor has created a clone of himself, but this isn’t just any copy – he’s infused it with the power of every type of kryptonite imaginable, including the well-known green and red, and even newer, more potent forms. Calling this creation the Kryptonite Man, Lex breaks him free and commands an army of Bizarro Bots, sending them all to Metropolis with the goal of finally defeating Superman. Just as Superman returns from a journey into the Fifth Dimension, he comes face-to-face with the enhanced Kryptonite Man, who is prepared for an epic showdown.
Kryptonite Man is a classic Superman foe who first appeared in the 1960s. His backstory has been retold several times, but he’s usually shown as a scientist capable of releasing kryptonite radiation. Interestingly, two people Lex Luthor uses in Project M.O.K. were earlier versions of Kryptonite Man (K. Russell Abernathy and Clay Ramsay). However, this is a new timeline, and their actions have allowed Lex Luthor to create what is likely the strongest Kryptonite Man yet.
Can Superman Overcome Every Kryptonite at Once?

Typically, the Kryptonite Man’s power comes from green Kryptonite, which weakens Superman and causes him a lot of pain. It’s unpleasant, but Superman can usually handle it. However, Lex Luthor’s version isn’t limited to just green; he controls all types of Kryptonite. While some, like blue Kryptonite, aren’t actually harmful to Superman, the others are incredibly dangerous. A villain with access to the full spectrum of Kryptonite presents a genuine and significant threat to Superman’s safety.
Green kryptonite is harmful, but other colors can have even stranger effects on Kryptonians. Red causes extreme mood changes or physical transformations, yellow drains their powers, and black creates multiple personalities. This new variety is just as dangerous: purple distorts Superman’s sense of time, while cobalt and speckled kryptonite cause him to grow and shrink out of control. Any one of these is a problem, but combined within a powerful enemy like Lex Luthor, it creates a serious threat that Superman may not be able to overcome.
Even though Superman: The Kryptonite Spectrum is a fun story, it’s separate from the main Superman timeline, so anything can happen. Superman is usually able to handle any threat, but this time he’s facing a real challenge. We’ve already seen how dangerous a combination of red and cobalt Kryptonite can be, and things could get much worse with other types mixed together. I think Superman has a chance of winning, but I also expect the new Kryptonite Man to be a devastating opponent, possibly even as powerful as Doomsday.
