Michael B. Jordan and the director are making progress on the upcoming remake of the classic heist thriller, The Thomas Crown Affair. The new version, which will draw inspiration from the 1968 film, is set to be released by Amazon MGM Studios on March 5, 2027, and is currently being filmed.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Jordan announced that filming for the remake of The Thomas Crown Affair is nearly complete. He shared that production in Italy will finish before November 27th, which is Thanksgiving in the US. Jordan, who has been working on this new version of the film for nearly a decade, described completing the movie as a long-held dream come true.
It’s been a challenging journey, but seeing things I’ve dreamed about for years finally come true with such a fantastic cast is incredibly rewarding. I truly feel like I’m living a dream.
The classic film features Steve McQueen as Thomas Crown, a mastermind thief who pulls off a multi-million dollar bank robbery. The story centers on Vicki Anderson, portrayed by Faye Dunaway, an insurance investigator tasked with solving the crime, which sparks a thrilling and surprising cat-and-mouse game between the two.
The movie The Thomas Crown Affair received an Oscar nomination for its original score and won an Oscar for Best Original Song, “Windmills of Your Mind,” composed by Michel Legrand. The film was later updated in 1999, starring Pierce Brosnan as Thomas Crown and Rene Russo as the investigator Catherine Banning. Critics generally liked the remake.
Jordan will play the main character in his upcoming movie. The rest of the cast includes Adria Arjona, Kenneth Branagh, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, Pilou Asbæk, and Aiysha Hart, though their roles haven’t been announced yet. Drew Pierce, who wrote both Hobbs & Shaw (2019) and The Fall Guy (2024), penned the screenplay.
Filming for the new version of The Thomas Crown Affair is almost finished, putting the movie on track for its planned release in March 2027. Jordan is clearly enthusiastic about the project, especially considering how long he’s worked on it. This will be his second time directing, following his 2023 debut with Creed III.
I’m really excited about the new Thomas Crown Affair! Now that filming has wrapped, I’m expecting we’ll start hearing a lot more about it soon. From what I understand, it’s currently the only project Michael Jordan is focusing on, which tells me he’s really pouring his heart into making this remake something special. I have a feeling the next few months will be full of updates and details as they move into post-production.
