After nearly ten years since the manga first came out, fans are eagerly awaiting the anime adaptation of Witch Hat Atelier by BUG Films. A recent teaser trailer has excited viewers with its stunning animation and intriguing glimpse of the story to come. The trailer also revealed that Rena Motomura will voice the character Coco, and Natsuki Hanae – known for voicing Tanjiro Kamado in Demon Slayer – will play Qifrey. Originally planned for a 2025 release, the anime has been delayed due to production challenges. The studio wants to take extra time to ensure the animation is top-quality and faithfully recreates the manga’s intricate magical details.
The recent preview shows the studio truly delivered on its promises. BUG Films is a relatively new animation studio, established in 2021, and is still building its reputation in the anime world. They previously released Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead in 2023, which unfortunately faced production difficulties and had to pause mid-season – something you don’t often see with popular shows. Based on the beautifully detailed artwork of Kamone Shirahama’s manga, the anime adaptation seems to be doing it justice so far. Witch Hat Atelier is a highly praised fantasy series for adult audiences, loved by both readers and critics, which is why there’s so much excitement surrounding the adaptation.
What Is the Plot of Witch Hat Atelier?

Magic is everywhere in this world – it’s simply a part of life. But Coco, a dressmaker’s daughter, doesn’t understand how it works, and she’s always been captivated by witches and their powers. Becoming a witch isn’t easy, especially if you’re not born with the gift. Everything changes when Qifrey, a witch, visits Coco’s mother’s shop and recognizes a special talent in Coco – not just for sewing, but for magic as well.
Coco’s curiosity about a performer leads to a surprising discovery: the childhood picture book she carries is actually magical. When she attempts her first spell, her inexperience causes a big mishap. Qifrey rescues her and realizes she might be the key to finding a dangerous group practicing forbidden magic. He decides to mentor Coco, helping her develop her magical abilities. But learning magic isn’t her only challenge – she also needs to learn to live and work with the other apprentices at Qifrey’s Atelier.
