It’s surprisingly simple to use a keyboard and mouse with your PS5. The console works with both wired and wireless options, and connecting them is quick once you know how. This guide will walk you through all the ways to get everything set up and working smoothly.
Wired Mouse Setup
For a basic setup, a wired mouse is your best bet. Simply plug the USB end into the back of your PS5. The console will usually detect it right away, and you’ll see a small notification appear on the screen to confirm it’s working.
To change how your mouse works, press the PlayStation button, then go to Accessories, select USB Mouse, and choose Mouse Settings. From there, you can adjust how sensitive the mouse is or how the buttons function to make it feel just right for you.
Wireless Dongle Mouse Setup
If your mouse uses a USB-A dongle, connect it to a USB port on the back of your PS5. The system will recognize it just like a mouse that’s directly wired in.
After connecting, find the ‘Accessories’ tab at the bottom of the screen. Select your USB Mouse, and this will open the Mouse Settings where you can adjust how it works. The setup is the same whether you’re using a wired or wireless mouse.
Bluetooth Mouse Setup
For a Bluetooth mouse, start by putting it in pairing mode.
Then on your PS5:
- Open Settings
- Go to Accessories
- Choose General
- Select Bluetooth Accessories
Your mouse should show up in the “Accessories Found” list. Click on it, and it will connect automatically – the pairing process happens by itself.
Bluetooth Keyboard Setup
Connecting a Bluetooth keyboard is similar to connecting a wireless mouse. First, put the keyboard into pairing mode. Then, on your PS5, follow the same steps you’d use to connect the mouse.
- Open Settings
- Go to Accessories
- Choose General
- Select Bluetooth Accessories
Your keyboard name will appear on the list.
Once I chose the device, my PS5 immediately asked for a code. I typed it in and hit Enter, and a little message popped up at the top of the screen letting me know everything was connected! It was super easy.
You can adjust these settings at any time by going to the Accessories tab and selecting your connected keyboard. This will open the keyboard’s settings panel.
Wired Keyboard Setup
Setting up a wired keyboard is simple: just plug it in! Connect the USB cable to your PS5, and it works right away. You can immediately start navigating menus and accessing settings using the arrow keys – it’s just like connecting a wired mouse.
Keep in Mind
The PlayStation 5 can connect keyboards and mice, but whether games actually work with them varies. It’s up to each game developer to decide if they’ll allow these inputs. Some games let you fully customize the controls, while others only allow simple typing. And a few games don’t support keyboards and mice at all, and may even prevent you from using them.
Take a look at the settings within each game to customize your keyboard and mouse controls. The available options change from game to game, so finding what works best depends on what you’re playing.
