Marvel comics is known for its complex and emotional relationships, like those of Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman, or Cyclops and Jean Grey. These pairings often drive major storylines and help characters grow. However, many other characters share equally touching moments, but they don’t get as much attention. It’s understandable that the most famous couples are the ones we remember, but it’s a shame because some of these lesser-known relationships are actually more stable and positive than Marvel’s popular pairings.
As a huge Marvel fan, I’ve noticed that while everyone’s talking about the big celebrity couples, some of the really sweet and well-developed romances in the comics often fly under the radar. It’s a shame, because some of those relationships are genuinely touching and deserve more attention!
5) Mettle and Hazmat

Ken Mack, known as Mettle, and Jennifer Takeda, or Hazmat, found love in a surprisingly sweet way. Both were students at Avengers Academy and felt like they had flaws that would make it hard to be loved. Hazmat’s powers caused her to give off dangerous radiation, making her feel alone, while Mettle struggled with his metallic appearance. Mettle’s gentle nature and the fact that he wasn’t affected by her radiation helped Hazmat open up, and they began a relationship. Their happiness was threatened when Mettle seemingly gave his life to protect Hazmat from the villain Arcade. But years later, it was revealed that Mettle had actually survived, leading to a joyful reunion for the two heroes.
4) Moon Knight and Tigra

As a huge comic book fan, I’ve always found the dynamic between Moon Knight and Tigra fascinating. It’s a bit of an unusual pairing, right? He’s this complex guy, basically the earthly form of an Egyptian god with a lot of internal struggles, and she’s a literal tiger-human hybrid! But honestly, their relationship is surprisingly heartwarming and creates some really compelling drama. They actually started dating back when they were both members of the West Coast Avengers. It was a bit complicated though, because Moon Knight’s god, Khonshu, wouldn’t let him be with her! Later, after Moon Knight managed to break free from Khonshu’s control, they tried again. What I really love is that Tigra doesn’t shy away from his mental health issues – unlike some of his past girlfriends. Plus, having that shared history as former teammates gives them a really unique connection.
3) Rictor and Shatterstar

Rictor and Shatterstar, members of the X-Force, made history in Marvel Comics with the first kiss between two male superheroes. Shatterstar, an alien new to Earth, depended on Rictor to learn about human life and customs. Their bond grew from friendship into a romantic relationship as they fought together and discovered shared passions. Though their different backgrounds sometimes caused problems, leading to periods of separation, it’s clear Rictor and Shatterstar truly love each other, making them one of Marvel’s most well-developed gay couples.
2) Ka-Zar and Shanna

Ka-Zar and Shanna, the king and queen of the Savage Land, are a long-standing, but often forgotten, married couple in the Marvel Universe. Ka-Zar, raised in the hidden jungles beneath Antarctica, is a powerful warrior who fights prehistoric creatures with his animal companion, Zabu. He met Shanna, an explorer who shared his love for the natural world, and she eventually made the Savage Land her home. Similar to the story of Tarzan and Jane, Ka-Zar and Shanna fell in love, married, and became a formidable team, defending their jungle home from outsiders. They also have a son, Mathew, who continues their legacy as a protector of the Savage Land.
1) Thing and Alicia Masters

Ben Grimm, known as the Thing, believed he’d never find love after being transformed into a rock monster. That changed when he met Alicia Masters, a kind and compassionate blind woman. Though initially manipulated by her villainous stepfather, the Puppet Master, into opposing the Fantastic Four, Alicia eventually began a relationship with the Thing. She was drawn to his gentle and caring personality, and her acceptance helped him overcome his insecurities about his appearance. After decades together, they finally married in 2019, marking a happy milestone for this often-overlooked but remarkably stable Marvel couple.
