Sophia Bush Reveals Change She’d Make to One Tree Hill Storyline

There’s one hill Sophia Bush is prepared to die on.

 
During the conclusion of her One Tree Hill rewatch podcast Drama Queens, the actress—who portrayed Brooke Davis—admitted an aspect of the WB/CW drama’s final season which she would have omitted.
 
“I would have liked to have not had another run-in with Xavier,” she said of the character, played by Devin McGee, on the Nov. 5 edition of the podcast. “For why? For what?”
 
After attacking Sophia’s character and killing Quentin Fields (played by Robbie Jones) during the show’s sixth season, Xavier was sent to prison for his crimes, only to be released in season nine and eventually attack her again.
 
However, Sophia did note that she was otherwise “so happy” with the show’s conclusion, describing the series finale as being “like a present.”
 
“You hear people say in a negative way about TV sometimes, ‘At the end of every episode, they wrap it up in a bow—that’s not real life,’” she continued. “But I actually think our show deserved an episode where we wrapped it up in a bow and made it beautiful.”
Behind the scenes, Sophia might have tweaked one other aspect of her experience on the series, which aired from 2003 to 2012. She recently revealed her salary for her work was lower than several of her costars, largely due to her relative inexperience in the industry at the time the show debuted.

“Once I paid 10 percent to my managers, 10 percent to my agents, 5 percent to my lawyers, a publicist fee, my taxes and the $3,000-a-month that my two-bedroom apartment in Wilmington cost me,” Sophia said during a Tech Futures panel in October, “I was taking home about $3,000 per episode.”
 
And while many actors on long-running series earn high residuals from reruns later on, Sophia explained why that hasn’t been the case for her.
 
“When we signed to do that wonderful show that we all loved… there was no streaming,” she noted. “Our show is syndicated on streaming, which means the studio that owns the show makes all the residuals and we don’t.”

Since the end of One Tree Hill in 2012, actor Shane Lafferty has remained active in television and film, with roles in shows like Crisis and Underground. James Lafferty teamed up with his former One Tree Hill co-star, Stephen Colletti, to create and star in the Hulu comedy series Everyone Is Doing Great, which premiered in 2021.

After leaving One Tree Hill in its sixth season, Hilarie Burton starred in a number of TV movies and made guest appearances on shows like Castle, Grey’s Anatomy, Hostages, Forever, and Lethal Weapon. She also had a recurring role on USA’s White Collar. In 2009, she began dating Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who you may know from The Walking Dead (and also guest starred on Grey’s Anatomy). They married in 2014 and now have two children, a son and a daughter. More recently, she played the wife of his character, Negan, on season 10 of The Walking Dead.

In 2018, Burton also starred in a TV movie called The Christmas Contract, which brought together some of the cast from One Tree Hill. She’s still close with a few of her former OTH colleagues, and together they created the Cape Fearless Challenge. This event helped support Wilmington, North Carolina – the show’s filming location – after it was impacted by Hurricane Florence.

Following a brief appearance on the comedy show Partners, Sophia Bush became known for her role as Erin Lindsay in NBC’s One Chicago franchise. She was a series regular on Chicago P.D. and also made guest appearances on Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, Chicago Justice, and Law & Order: SVU. Bush departed Chicago P.D. in 2017. She also lent her voice to a character in The Incredibles 2, and in 2024, she joined the cast of Grey’s Anatomy in a recurring role.

Chad Michael Murray was briefly married to his “One Tree Hill” co-star, Sophia Bush, and was engaged to Kenzie Dalton for seven years. He then married Sarah Roemer, his co-star from “Chosen,” in 2015. They have three children: a son born in 2015, a daughter born in 2017, and another daughter born in August 2023.

Since the show One Tree Hill finished in 2012, the actress and musician has been in a number of TV movies and guest roles on popular shows like Grey’s Anatomy, Colony, American Gothic, CSI, and Dexter.

Following his time playing Mouth in 2012, Norris revisited another famous character: Minkus from Boy Meets World. Additionally, Norris had a role in the film Gone Girl and appeared in two episodes of The Walking Dead in 2017.

After his time on One Tree Hill, Tanner has appeared in shows like Get Shorty, Black Jesus, Rizzoli & Isles, The Carmichael Show, and Rosewood. He also frequently connects with and supports his former One Tree Hill castmates online.

Although his character was killed off by Dan in the third season, Sheffer continued to make a few appearances on the show. He also went on to guest star in popular series like Psych, Criminal Minds, CSI, and Major Crimes.

Following his final role on One Tree Hill, Nichols appeared as Spencer in The Walking Dead and later as Sam in Bates Motel. He also had parts in Ray Donovan and The Mob Doctor, but many fans still remember his 2001 performance in the beloved Holiday in the Sun, starring Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

I’ve been a fan of Danneel Harris for years, and it’s been amazing to see her career! Before she became Danneel Ackles through marriage to Jensen Ackles – who, of course, I adore on Supernatural – she actually guest-starred in a few episodes of the show, including the very first episode of season fourteen. And for all us One Tree Hill fans, she was fantastic in the reunion movie, The Christmas Contract!

Danneel exited the show One Tree Hill in 2009, and later that year, became engaged to Jensen. The couple married in 2010 and now have three children together.

Since her time on One Tree Hill ended, Bethany Joy Lenz Woods hasn’t been in many acting roles, though she did guest star on The Goldbergs playing the mother of her daughter, Natalie Alyn Lind. Acting seems to run in the family – all three of Woods’ daughters are actresses! Emily Alyn Lind played young Emily on Revenge, and Alyvia Alyn Lind was a regular on The Young and the Restless for ten years, from 2011 to 2021.

Since her role on One Tree Hill, the actress who played Lucas’s mom has been in numerous TV movies and series, including Numb3rs and Drop Dead Diva. She also appeared as Donna Hayward in Twin Peaks: The Missing Pieces, taking over the role from Lara Flynn Boyle for the prequel film, Fire Walk With Me.

Since his role on One Tree Hill, Corbin has built an impressive acting career, appearing in popular shows like Better Call Saul, Yellowstone, and Tulsa King. He also had a part in the film Killers of the Flower Moon and made a guest appearance on Modern Family as a member of Cam’s family. Interestingly, he’s also recognized for his contributions to the Western lifestyle and is an inductee of the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame.

Colletti returned to television in season four of the show, a few years after being on Laguna Beach. He also had smaller roles in Hit the Floor and the Lifetime movie Hometown Christmas (2018). More recently, in 2021, he reunited with his former One Tree Hill co-star James Lafferty to create and star in the Hulu comedy series Everyone Is Doing Great.

Since finishing his role on One Tree Hill, Lil Jamie hasn’t done a lot of acting. He’s made appearances at fan events with his former co-stars, but his latest acting job was providing a voice for the cartoon series Harvey Beaks.

VanSanten became part of the series in its seventh season and her character finished the show happily married. Since then, she’s appeared in the brief television series The Messengers and had a notable role on The Flash.

Following her appearances on One Tree Hill, DeVitto went on to star in several popular TV shows, including The Vampire Diaries, Army Wives, Pretty Little Liars, Chicago PD, and Chicago Med.

Actor David Buckley is known for his work on shows like The Christmas Contract, where he appeared starting in season seven and remained until the series ended. He then had a role in the brief series 666 Park Avenue before becoming a main cast member on The CW’s iZombie, playing the character Major Lilywhite. Buckley married actress Jenny Wade in May 2018, and they have two children together.

The singer appeared on the show for several seasons, starting with season two and continuing through four. He later rejoined the cast as a regular in season nine. After that, he had a leading role in the CBS series Extant and made a musical appearance in The Christmas Contract.

Jamie Lynn Kramer started on the show in 2009, but later prioritized her music career and became a country singer. In 2016, she was a finalist on Dancing with the Stars, finishing in fourth place. She has two children with her former husband, Mike Caussin, and recently welcomed a son with her husband, Allan Russell, in November 2023.
