Dolly Parton Addresses Missing Hall of Fame Event Amid Health Concerns

Dolly Parton is thankful for the way she’s made a living.

Dolly Parton, known for her hit song “Jolene,” recently apologized for missing her Hall of Fame induction at the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) on November 17th. She was being honored for her theme park, Dollywood, but couldn’t attend due to ongoing health issues.

In a thank you video posted on Dollywood’s Instagram on November 19th, Dolly explained she couldn’t be there in person. She shared that she’s been facing some health issues this fall and her doctors have advised her to rest for a bit.

The Grammy-winning artist, unable to attend the November 16th Governors Awards to receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, expressed her sincere apologies for missing the event and thanked IAAPA for the recognition.

Oh my gosh, Dolly said something so sweet! She was talking about how thankful she is for everyone at Dollywood, because they always hear her out, even when she walks in with, like, a totally wild idea or a huge dream. It just shows how much they believe in her vision, and it makes me love them all even more! Seriously, they’re the best team ever, letting Dolly be Dolly!

She exclaimed with excitement that the incredible team at Dollywood always manages to make people’s dreams a reality.

Dolly Parton reminisced about the history of Dollywood, recalling that it first opened in 1963 as Rebel Railroad. The park went through several changes before she became involved and rebranded it as Dollywood in 1986.

She shared her vision for a Smoky Mountain venue where her family could perform, creating consistent jobs for locals. She wanted it to be a place where families could come together, enjoy themselves, and create lasting memories.

Dolly was particularly moved by the IAAPA honor, as she was just the second woman to be inducted into the Hall of Fame based on her own achievements, and only the fourth woman inducted in total.

“Thank you so much for this incredible honor,” she said. “This means the world to me, and to everyone who works at Dollywood. To all my friends, partners, and to those of you creating magical experiences for families everywhere, please know that I will always cherish you.”

Although Dolly couldn’t make it to the Hall of Fame ceremony because she wasn’t feeling well, she’d already dismissed stories about being seriously ill.

In an October Instagram post, she started by saying she wanted to reassure everyone who was worried, and that she was grateful for their concern and prayers. She shared that, as a person of faith, she always welcomes and appreciates any and all prayers.

Dolly Parton shared that since her husband, Carl Dean, passed away in March, she hasn’t been prioritizing her own needs as much.

I’m doing okay, although I am dealing with some difficulties, as I said before. When my husband, Carl, was ill for a long time, and then after he passed away, I neglected my own needs and let things slide that I really should have addressed.

Still, Dolly insisted she’s very much ready to rock.

“I ain’t done working,” she said. “So I love you for caring and keep praying for me.”

In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced a frightening health scare while having breakfast with her husband, Justin Bieber. She suddenly developed stroke-like symptoms, initially struggling to respond when Justin asked if she was alright. She quickly realized she couldn’t speak and the right side of her face began to droop.

Although the symptoms eventually subsided, Hailey went to the hospital and tests revealed she’d had a small blood clot in her brain, which doctors identified as a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack).

Further examination at UCLA uncovered a hole in her heart called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). Doctors determined the blood clot had traveled through this hole and to her brain, causing the TIA.

Hailey successfully underwent a procedure to close the PFO and is now doing well.

The same year Hailey faced a health issue, Justin also experienced one. In June 2022, he revealed he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a condition that caused temporary paralysis on one side of his face. This forced him to cancel the remaining dates of his Justice World Tour.

In a video posted to Instagram, Justin explained that the virus affected the nerves in his ear and face, preventing him from blinking, smiling, or moving his nostril on the affected side. He also shared that it was becoming increasingly difficult for him to eat.

Fortunately, the paralysis eventually went away. Hailey shared on Good Morning America that Justin was recovering well, adding that while the situation had been frightening and unexpected, he was going to be completely fine and she was thankful he was on the mend.

Initially, a doctor gave him a cortisone shot and sent him home, but his sister, Deidra Dixon, grew concerned and took him to the hospital. There, doctors discovered he had a brain bleed that led to a stroke.

A hospital scan revealed she had suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage – a life-threatening stroke caused by bleeding around the brain – due to a ruptured aneurysm. She underwent immediate surgery, which she described as incredibly painful. During her recovery, she temporarily lost her ability to speak, often muttering incoherently.

Though she was released from the hospital after a month, a 2013 scan revealed the aneurysm had grown and required a second surgery. This surgery was initially unsuccessful, leading to a massive bleed and a dire prognosis. Doctors had to perform a more invasive procedure, accessing her brain directly through her skull.

Fortunately, Emilia is now fully recovered and says she is “at a hundred per cent.”

Determined to find answers, Woodley, who comes from a holistic health background and studies herbalism, sought help from both traditional doctors and alternative healers. This search for well-being lasted for ten years.
