Ghostbusters Star Confirms the Weirdest Cameo in Franchise History Is Actually Canon to the Movies

The Ghostbusters series has been popular in many different forms over the years, but many fans consider the original 1984 team to be the most memorable. That’s why it’s always exciting to see those characters appear in other movies or new Ghostbusters projects. However, one surprise appearance stands out as particularly unexpected, and a Ghostbusters actor has now confirmed that moment is officially part of the original films’ story.

Dan Aykroyd, famous for his role in Ghostbusters, has consistently played Dr. Ray Stantz in various projects over the years. While his appearances in the newer Ghostbusters movies are considered official parts of the story, he also made a surprise appearance in the 1995 film Casper, which he has since confirmed fits into the official timeline as well.

Dan Aykroyd recently shared on the Talking Strange podcast how he ended up in the movie Casper. He explained that Steven Spielberg specifically requested him for the role and had the filmmakers include him, as reported by Comingsoon.net. Aykroyd believes this appearance officially makes him part of the Casper universe, and sees it as a nice tribute to his work with Ivan Reitman and the team. He’s confident it should be considered part of the official story.

If you’ve forgotten, Dan Aykroyd appears early in the movie Casper. Carrigan and Dibs are searching for someone to deal with the ghosts inhabiting Whipstaff Manor—Stretch, Stinkie, and Fatso. These ghosts spend their time tormenting anyone who tries to live there, and they even call on Ray Stantz from the Ghostbusters for help, rather than making Casper do all the work.

Stantz bravely enters the haunted house to eliminate the ghosts, but quickly retreats, rushing back to the car. This surprising turn of events reveals that while Stantz didn’t succeed, the Ghostbusters know about Casper and his mischievous friends.

It’s been a long time since the last Casper movie in 1995, and if they ever make another one, it would be great to see the Ghostbusters make a cameo again.
