Netflix has been finding success with animated shows, and they’re hoping to keep that momentum going with a new project. Although a previous attempt to adapt a comic book series, Something Is Killing the Children, didn’t move forward, they’re trying again with another popular comic. This new series will be geared towards older audiences, and the team behind the hit show Wednesday is heavily involved.
Netflix is bringing the popular horror-fantasy comic series Grim to life as an adult animated show. The creators of Wednesday, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, will executive produce, and Jennifer Yuh Nelson, who supervised Love, Death + Robots, is also joining the project, assembling a talented team.
Created by Stephanie Phillips and Flaviano, the comic series Grim first appeared in 2022. It centers around Jessica Harrow, a new Reaper tasked with guiding souls to the afterlife. However, Jessica has no memory of her own death or past life, and must delve into the mysteries of the afterlife to uncover her history and connection to Death.
Stephanie Phillips, writer and co-creator of Grim, shared how much the series means to her and the team. She expressed her excitement about its revival as an animated series on Netflix, and is eager for both longtime fans and new viewers to experience Jessica Harrow’s world. She playfully noted the ‘new life’ aspect was a fitting coincidence.
After a very successful launch, becoming one of BOOM! Studios’ best-selling series, Grim recently concluded its 25-issue run.
