The BBC has confirmed that Riot Women will be returning for season 2.
Early in November, news emerged that the broadcaster was close to renewing Sally Wainwright‘s drama about a punk rock band formed by five women going through menopause, and an official confirmation was expected soon.
She also mentioned there’s strong interest in continuing the show. She’s definitely not finished with her character, Kitty, and hopes to reprise the role if another season happens.
The project has officially been approved, and Wainwright hinted that exciting things are about to happen, saying, “This is where the fun really starts!”
The creator of the show, who also writes, directs, and produces it, shared how touched everyone involved was by the amazing reaction to the first series. They’re excited to build on that success with a second series and hope viewers will enjoy the ride!
Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, also reacted to the news, saying, “Riot Women has truly resonated with audiences, making them laugh, cry, and connect with each other – it’s been a huge success! We’re excited to see what happens next.”
Roanna Benn, an executive producer at Drama Republic, shared that the team was thrilled with how much audiences enjoyed and connected with Sally’s characters and stories, hinting that there are still many more stories to come.

Season 2 will explore the aftermath of the shocking revelations in the Season 1 finale. After finally discovering the identities of her attackers – including one who is still alive and formerly a high-ranking police officer – Kitty will navigate the consequences and what comes next.
“I’ve got an address. What you gonna do then, love? Have you decided?” Kitty’s dad asked her.
The show featured a talented cast alongside Craig, including Joanna Scanlan as Beth, Tamsin Greig as Holly, Lorraine Ashbourne as Jess, and Amelia Bullmore as Yvonne. They were supported by Taj Atwal, Chandeep Uppal, and Macy Seelochan, who played the energetic backing singers Nisha, Kam, and Miranda.
Further details will be announced in due course.
Riot Women is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
