As Robert Downey Jr. prepares to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the villain Victor Von Doom, a look back at deleted scenes from the original Iron Man reveals how different Tony Stark’s story could have been. In an alternate ending that didn’t make the final cut, Nick Fury complains to himself about having to manage Tony Stark in addition to existing problems like “gamma accidents” (hinting at the Hulk), “radioactive bug bites” (Spider-Man), and “assorted mutants” (the X-Men). Marvel Studios removed the scene because they didn’t own the film rights to those characters at the time, preventing them from introducing those storylines.
