For the past ten years, this platform has consistently produced excellent TV series. Just eight months after Season 2 became its most popular premiere ever, another show has taken the lead. That show is , created by Vince Gilligan, the mind behind , and many critics are calling it the best show of the year.
With Pluribus, creator Gilligan moves beyond the world of Breaking Bad, though the story remains in Albuquerque. The show features Rhea Seehorn (from Better Call Saul) as Carol, a deeply unhappy woman who discovers she’s immune to an alien invasion. This invasion has turned the rest of humanity into a single, cheerful, and cooperative group. Pluribus premiered on November 7th with two episodes, quickly attracting over 6.4 million hours of viewership in its first week.
This new show is off to a strong start, surpassing the debut of Severance earlier this year. Severance held the top spot on Apple TV for nearly two weeks before being overtaken by The Morning Show. Considering only three episodes are currently available, with the fourth arriving on November 21st, these viewership numbers are particularly noteworthy for a brand new series.
‘Pluribus’ Has Gained Incredible Reviews
Given the huge success of shows like Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, many expected Vince Gilligan to build on those stories and characters. However, his new series is surprisingly different – it has a completely original idea, features excellent acting, and doesn’t resemble his previous work at all.
The TV series Pluribus had a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes until today. Two negative reviews from The Spectator and the Jerusalem Post brought the score down to 99%. Both reviewers felt the show moved too slowly and had an ambiguous feel. However, the overwhelming majority of the 100 other reviews have been incredibly positive, calling it a “masterpiece” and “must-watch,” proving that, like the show itself, positive opinions greatly outnumber the negative ones.
Pluribus was renewed for two seasons in 2022, guaranteeing at least another season. Given its incredibly successful launch and positive reception, the show could potentially continue beyond that as well.
While many people are watching the series, reviews from viewers haven’t been as overwhelmingly positive as those from professional critics. Currently, the audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is 79%, but that number is likely to shift as more episodes are released. The first season will finish on December 26th, and by then, a lot more viewer reviews will be available.
New episodes of Pluribus will be released every Friday, starting November 21st, and continuing through December 26th.
