Despite a recent surge in vampire games, the director of the upcoming RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, explains the game won’t solely focus on the power fantasy of being a vampire. In an interview with GamesRadar, he stated that while the main character, Coen, is half-vampire, players will have a lot of options in how they play and won’t be forced to rely on his vampire powers.
According to Tomasz Tomaszkiewicz, The Blood of Dawnwalker will feature vampires as part of a larger story, rather than focusing solely on them. He explained that the game will include various creatures of the night, and the narrative will explore a story with vampires, not just about vampires.
According to Tomaszkiewicz, The Blood of Dawnwalker aims to offer players a similar level of freedom to Dishonored. The game will feature a variety of abilities and intricately designed levels, encouraging players to explore and find creative solutions to objectives. There will also be side quests that add even more options for completing tasks.
According to Tomasz, Dishonored served as a key influence on the game’s design. The team aimed to give players a similar level of open-world exploration as a vampire. However, while The Blood of Dawnwalker won’t offer exactly the same freedom as Dishonored – players won’t be able to access every single area – it will still feel incredibly open and allow for a near-total sense of freedom.
Players can expect a lot of freedom in how they approach challenges in The Blood of Dawnwalker. A recent gameplay video showed a spell called “Compel Soul” – similar to the “Speak With Dead” spell in Baldur’s Gate 3 – that lets the character Coen uncover new story details and find unique solutions to quests. Interestingly, this spell can only be used during the day, adding an extra layer of strategy to the game.
The gameplay video gave a good overview of The Blood of Dawnwalker, demonstrating how players control Coen as he completes quests and explores different environments. It highlighted a quest to find a powerful sword hidden in a crypt beneath a church. Players have several ways to approach this quest, such as sneaking into the crypt at night using the Shadow Step ability.
An August video offered a preview of the abilities players will use as Coen in The Blood of Dawnwalker. It showed off Planeshift, a skill that lets players quickly move around the game world, including scaling buildings and cliffs. The video also highlighted the game’s fast and impactful combat.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2026.
