Resident Evil Requiem Features “Characters From Past Series,” As Producer Warns Against Over-Hyping

Following claims that leaked images of Leon S. Kennedy in Resident Evil Requiem were fabricated, producer Masato Kumazawa has now stated that characters from older games will indeed make an appearance.

Naturally, certain terms and conditions apply. When Well-Played recently asked if characters from Resident Evil Outbreak – beyond Alyssa (Grace’s mother) – might appear, the response was affirmative: we can expect to see some returning characters from previous games.

He also cautioned against building up too much anticipation, explaining they couldn’t make any guarantees. However, he did confirm that the game will feature characters who were present during the Raccoon City incident.

This doesn’t definitively confirm Leon will be in the game, or that he’ll be a main character alongside Grace, despite what many rumors suggest. However, it does leave the possibility open for appearances from other familiar faces, like Claire Redfield (from Resident Evil 2) and Jill Valentine (Resident Evil 3). Plus, Kumazawa didn’t rule out the return of characters from the Outbreak series, so they could also make an appearance.

The new game, Resident Evil Requiem, will be released on February 27, 2026, for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. Fans won’t have to wait much longer for details, as an in-depth preview is planned for January of next year.

Honestly, I’m just as in the dark as anyone about what Capcom will announce, but I’m not expecting a demo, unfortunately. The good news, though, is that Kumazawa said that huge, creepy enemy we’ve been seeing is actually just a small part of what the game has to offer! That’s really exciting to me.
