Be warned, this contains spoilers for episode 6 of Talamasca: The Secret Order! I was really hoping episode 6 would deliver a strong conclusion, particularly since episode 5 felt hurried. The episode immediately felt important to the larger Immortal Universe. It opens with a flashback to the 1980s, showing a vampire in Amsterdam being compelled to turn someone else, though the identity of the person being turned isn’t immediately revealed.
The shocking cliffhanger happens as Doris leaves their hiding place, and when Guy follows her to a store, they learn her coven has been attacked. This news forces them to return to the boat, even though they can’t trust many people connected to the Talamasca. While it’s a risky move, their emotional state makes it understandable why they’d abandon safety.
The episode felt less like a satisfying conclusion to the season and more like an introduction to the events of season two. Although I’m looking forward to what happens next, the finale felt a bit underwhelming because it spent so much time building towards the future.
Talamasca’s Season Finale Offers A Compelling Twist To Its 752 Story
When Guy and Doris arrived at the docks, Ridge immediately arrested them. Ridge, a sharp investigator, suspected they were involved in the deaths of Keves and Archie. She was especially focused on connecting Guy to Helen, because Helen’s DNA had unexpectedly been found at the crime scene. Meanwhile, Helen was discovering the truth about her sister. These two storylines build to an exciting and dramatic conclusion.
As the story progresses and events unfold, we discover that Doris is Helen’s sister. Following a strange and confusing assassination attempt, an action-packed scene exposes Olive as a traitor and reveals Doris is a vampire. This surprising twist clarifies her relationship with Guy and suggests that the Talamasca organization is now in danger.
The most surprising moment occurs when Guy rescues Doris. She has an extraordinary memory, and while researching at the Talamasca library in Amsterdam, she uncovered crucial information. It appears the fire was deliberately started to prevent that information from falling into the wrong hands. This is because Doris is actually designated as 752.
I found the plot twist interesting, even though it stretched believability a bit – it seemed risky for the Talamasca to entrust all their information to someone so vulnerable. However, I was glad to see Doris given a more significant role, both as Helen’s sister and as the individual known as 752. This made a later scene, where Guy and Doris try to escape, especially impactful.
In the season finale, Helen meets Guy and Doris at the train station to deliver their passports, just as she’d said she would in episode 5 of Talamasca: The Secret Order. However, to escape agents working for Olive and Jasper, she has to surrender to the police instead. The scene is heartbreaking as Helen and Doris share a look, but it suggests their connection will continue in the future.
Talamasca Season 1 Ends With More Questions Than Answers
Although the season finale of Talamasca: The Secret Order answers some key questions, it intentionally leaves many plot points open for a potential second season. This approach works well in certain areas, like Guy and Doris fleeing while trying to find Guy’s mother, which clearly sets up the main storyline for a future season. This felt important after the central mystery surrounding the number 752 was largely explained.
However, some storylines feel less connected and more sprawling. Helen seems intent on bringing Ridge into the Talamasca, even though, after Olive’s betrayal, she shouldn’t trust them. Meanwhile, Jasper, held captive by the Talamasca, is being pressured to identify a dozen vampires, a request that raises questions and suggests the organization’s corruption is more widespread than anyone realized.
Although the new developments are exciting for season 2, the unresolved storyline from season 1, still involving Doris, feels a bit incomplete. This makes sense considering the show is intended to continue, but the episode felt more like a collection of plot twists leading into the next season than a satisfying conclusion to the first.
I thought the final episode of Talamasca: The Secret Order was enjoyable overall. It introduced some interesting plot twists that have me eager to see what happens next, and I’m hoping there will be a second season. The series really broadened the scope of the Immortal Universe, and the episode left me wanting more – which is generally a good thing.
