Jensen Ackles Helps Justin Hartley’s Colter Crack Tracker’s New Mystery

Last night on Tracker, Colter investigated the disappearance of Margo, a crime scene cleaner who also enjoyed solving mysteries. Margo was investigating a serial killer who had been active for more than twenty years. The episode ended with Colter discovering a new clue in the case of Ashton Shaw.

Colter managed to find his father’s killer, but many mysteries still need solving, including what frightened Ashton before his death. Jensen Ackles, playing Russell Shaw, assisted Colter by leveraging his connections to investigate the government scientist who also died that year.

Tracker’s Next Big Mystery Is About Ashton Shaw’s Government Work

On the night Ashton Shaw died, he believed someone was pursuing him. He urged his children to quickly gather their belongings and join him as he ran for safety in the heavy rain. When they wouldn’t leave without their mother, Ashton went alone, convinced the danger was directed solely at him. Russell, prompted by Colter, followed Ashton with the intention of bringing him back home.

When Russell and Ashton both disappeared, Colter went to find them. He discovered Ashton dead at the base of a cliff, with Russell standing above. For two decades, Colter thought Russell had killed their father. However, after reconnecting with his brother, played by Jensen Ackles of The Boys, Colter learned someone else was present that night. The season finale of Tracker revealed more, but this is just the start of uncovering the truth about his family.

In the Season 3 premiere, Colter’s brother, Ashton, was murdered after a conversation with a man named Otto, who pushed him off a cliff. Following Ashton’s death, Colter was found by Russell, who joined him as they reviewed Ashton’s journals. The brothers realized that Ashton had become increasingly paranoid, especially after he moved his family to a remote cabin in the woods. His paranoia had escalated significantly in the weeks leading up to his death.

Jensen Ackles’ Russell Shaw Got Colter His First New Lead in Tracker’s ‘Angel’

Colter suspects Ashton’s unpredictable actions stemmed from a classified government job he once held. Although Ashton’s parents were college professors, he briefly worked on highly sensitive projects for the government. Colter isn’t ready to discuss this with his mother, especially since she kept this secret from him – and from his older brother – for two decades.

Colter’s only lead was an old phone number he found tucked inside one of Ashton’s journals – it belonged to a government scientist. He asked his tech expert, Randy, to investigate, but Randy couldn’t find much information. The number traced back to David Pearson, a former government employee who seemingly died by suicide the same year as Ashton. If Pearson and Ashton were connected, their deaths occurring in the same year looks very strange.

Russell agreed to help Colter research the phone number. Although Russell prefers to avoid exploring his family’s history, he understands Colter is determined to find answers and is offering his support. Because Russell has a background in the military and as a private contractor, he has connections that allow him to access confidential information that Randy can’t.

In the show “The Old Ways,” Russell provided a collection of confidential records that weren’t released to the public. Following a dramatic rescue of true-crime enthusiasts from a serial killer in this week’s episode, Colter receives a call from Randy. Colter had been carefully examining the records Russell sent, hoping to find a link between Pearson and Ashton, and he finally discovered something.

Randy said the records investigation was incredibly complex, like one puzzle within another, but he did find a lead for Colter. It involves David Pearson and suggests a starting point for Colter’s research into the scientist, hoping to understand what frightened Ashton. Given the timing, this could also tie into Colter’s investigation of his own father and David Pearson.
