With the defeat of the Empire in Return of the Jedi, peace seemed to return to the galaxy. But years later, a new threat emerged – the First Order. They overthrew the New Republic, forcing a new group of heroes to fight for freedom. The sequel trilogy of the Skywalker Saga featured a compelling cast of characters, all grappling with the legacy of the past while forging their own paths in a turbulent future. These heroes, villains, and familiar faces brought new energy and emotional complexity to the ongoing galactic struggle.
These characters faced high stakes and intense challenges as they found themselves, made sacrifices, and sought to make things right, demonstrating that the desire for change and a belief in a better future always survive, no matter the time period.
7) Poe Dameron

Poe Dameron is a passionate and skilled pilot, and a key figure in the Resistance. He’s a confident, even cocky, flyer—much like Han Solo—but he grows into a true leader. He learns to combine his natural daring with careful planning, inspired by the example of Leia Organa.
Poe is a natural leader who always prioritized the well-being and success of his fellow pilots and friends. His growing connection with Leia and his strong friendship with Finn highlighted his belief in the power of working together and valuing collaboration.
6) Maz Kanata

Maz Kanata is an ancient pirate and former smuggler known for her wisdom and mysterious nature. Though she doesn’t fight with a lightsaber, she has a deep understanding of the Force. Her castle on the planet Takodana served as a lively hub where both outlaws and heroes would gather.
Maz Kanata, though often speaking in riddles, played a crucial role in guiding Rey on her journey and ultimately led her to Anakin Skywalker’s lightsaber. She served as a connection to the past events of the Star Wars saga, and often explained things to Rey—and the audience—to provide necessary background information.
5) Supreme Leader Snoke

Snoke was a powerful and enigmatic leader, believed to be the mastermind behind the First Order and the corrupting influence on Kylo Ren. Throughout the story, his background and abilities remained a frightening mystery, making him a dangerous figure who controlled the First Order’s immense power and resources.
Supreme Leader Snoke embodied the enduring threat of the dark side, driving the galaxy towards renewed war. His unexpected death dramatically boosted Kylo Ren’s power and cemented his position as a dominant force.
4) General Leia Organa

Leia came back not just as a princess or politician, but as a hardened and determined general leading the Resistance. She represented enduring hope and a willingness to sacrifice everything, even when facing impossible challenges. She bridged the gap between the original heroes of the Rebellion and the new fighters striving for freedom.
Watching her story unfold really hit me. It wasn’t just a plot point; it felt like a lifetime of dedication to the cause, even when she faced unbelievable hardship and loss. And honestly, the way it ended? Gut-wrenching. It absolutely solidified her as this incredible figure, a beacon of strength for the entire galaxy. The Resistance wouldn’t have survived its toughest times without her wisdom, that’s for sure.
3) Finn

Finn began as FN-2187, a stormtrooper who grew increasingly troubled by what he saw. His path is about discovering who he is, finding his resolve, and realizing what’s right. When he left the First Order to fight with the Resistance, he became a true hero, completely dedicated to doing what’s right.
Finn quickly became a key member of the Resistance thanks to his unwavering devotion to Rey and Poe, and his readiness to put himself in harm’s way for their cause. He represented the power of breaking free from the past and choosing hope instead of blindly following what he’d been taught.
2) Kylo Ren / Ben Solo

Kylo Ren was a complicated villain, struggling with a deep inner conflict between the good and evil sides of the Force. He was haunted by the shadows of his family history, particularly his grandfather, Darth Vader, and his parents, Leia and Han. His character was closely linked to Rey’s; their stories and struggles were intertwined, and neither could truly exist without the other.
Kylo Ren’s journey to become Ben Solo again, and his ultimate sacrifice to save Rey, provided the emotional climax of the entire story. Like his grandfather Anakin Skywalker, his story dealt with the weight of family history, the power of making your own choices, and the chance to find hope even after falling into darkness.
1) Rey

Rey’s journey started as a lonely scavenger on the harsh desert planet of Jakku, with no idea about her hidden abilities or the important role she was meant to play. She quickly demonstrated a strong connection to the Force and a special link to Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber, which launched her into a period of learning and finding out who she really was.
Throughout the sequel trilogy, the central character’s journey to discover who she was and where she belonged was the driving force of the story. By ultimately rejecting her connection to Palpatine and choosing the Jedi way – taking the name Skywalker – she brought the saga to a hopeful conclusion, emphasizing the importance of family, whether by blood or by choice.
