After nine years of consistent, free updates and a wealth of new content, it’s understandable to wonder how much more could possibly be added to Stardew Valley. It feels like the game has already given us so much!
You won’t believe this, but Eric Barone, the creator of Stardew Valley, still has one more huge update planned for the game! Even though he’s currently working on The Haunted Chocolatier, he’s promising one last big surprise for us Stardew Valley fans before 2025 is over. It’s amazing!
Stardew Valley Is Getting One Last 2025 Update
And it’s a big one
So, I was super excited to hear back in September that Stardew Valley is getting an update for the new Nintendo Switch 2! And the best part? Unlike a lot of other Switch 2 upgrades, this one’s going to be totally free. Seriously, Eric Barone – the creator – is a legend, in my opinion.
The Switch 2 edition of Stardew Valley comes packed with new features, such as:
- Four-player local split screen co-op.
- The introduction of mouse controls (a lovely surprise).
- Game Share functionality, allowing friends or family who don’t own Stardew Valley to play along.
Those are the main new additions, but we might find a few extra surprises once the update is live. Either way, it’s a great reason to spend many more hours playing Stardew Valley during the winter. However, there is one small issue.
Stardew Valley’s Switch 2 Upgrade Has Yet To Appear
We just have to be patient
So, during the Nintendo Direct last September, they said the Stardew Valley upgrade for the Switch 2 was coming out in Fall 2025. But since we haven’t heard anything new since then, a lot of us fans are starting to worry it might be pushed back to 2026. It’s tough waiting, you know?
Don’t worry just yet! Even though it feels like winter starts with December, the Winter 2025 update isn’t scheduled to begin until December 21st. That gives the developers a few more weeks to release it, and it would be a wonderful Christmas surprise if they did!
A new version of Stardew Valley for the Nintendo Switch 2 might be released by the end of 2025, which would be great news for fans. And 2026 is looking promising too, with the planned releases of Animal Crossing New Horizons 3.0 and a new Pokémon game, Pokémon Pokopia, early in the year.
