40. Destruction AllStars (PS5)
Sony nearly misstepped with Destruction AllStars by initially planning to sell it for $69.99, but thankfully changed course and made it available to PlayStation Plus subscribers at launch. Though the game showed promise from the start, the developers at Lucid Games needed some time to refine the gameplay. After making tweaks – like adjusting arena sizes – the game now feels great to play. It’s also visually appealing, with interesting character designs and impressive special effects.
39. Forspoken (PS5)
Forspoken had the potential to be a truly great game, but ultimately falls short. While the core gameplay is fast-paced, smooth, and genuinely enjoyable, the open world feels unnecessarily crowded, making exploration frustrating. The combat system takes a while to become truly engaging. If you’re willing to persevere through a slow-moving story and uninteresting characters, you might appreciate Frey’s impressive magical abilities, which are the game’s biggest strength. It’s not as bad as some online criticism suggests, but it doesn’t live up to the hype of being a must-have PS5 title.
38. Watch Dogs Legion (PS5)
Watch Dogs Legion, the third game in the Ubisoft series, moves the action to a futuristic London. This time, you build a team of recruits to help you complete missions across the city. You can switch between characters on the fly, and each one has unique skills and weaknesses. Although the game isn’t perfect, exploring London’s open world is enjoyable, and the series’ signature hacking and environmental interactions keep the gameplay engaging.
37. Dead by Daylight (PS5)
Dead by Daylight is a hugely popular multiplayer game where you and your friends try to survive against iconic horror movie villains. With content from franchises like A Nightmare on Elm Street and SAW, and years of updates, it offers endless hours of gameplay – potentially more than any other game out there. Grab some friends and prepare for a long gaming session!
36. Maneater (PS5)
Looking for a truly wild game? Check out Maneater! You start as a small shark and work your way up, eventually becoming a massive, powerful predator. It’s over-the-top, hilariously violent, and just plain fun. While it’s not perfect, you’re guaranteed a good time eating humans and exploring the ocean.
35. Mortal Shell: Enhanced Edition (PS5)
The popularity of games like Dark Souls has created its own unique style, and Mortal Shell: Enhanced Edition clearly takes inspiration from those games. While it doesn’t quite reach the level of the famous titles from FromSoftware, it’s a fun and challenging role-playing game if you’re looking for another difficult experience. Featuring precise combat, different ways to play, and a detailed world, Mortal Shell is a solid choice for fans of challenging action games.
34. Sniper Elite 5 (PS5)
Sniper Elite 5 doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel, and that’s perfectly fine. It understands what its fans want and delivers a solid experience. You play as Karl Fairburne in occupied France, tasked with stopping a secret operation called Kraken. The game expertly combines stealth with long-distance shooting in levels that are detailed and offer plenty of verticality. A new feature lets other players invade your solo campaign, adding a lot of excitement and challenge. While it doesn’t offer anything radically new, Sniper Elite 5 is a polished and consistently enjoyable game – Rebellion really knows how to make a sniper game.
33. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (PS5)
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla combines elements from both Origins and Odyssey. It shares Origins’ emphasis on a strong narrative, telling an epic story about Vikings. But like Odyssey, it also features extensive RPG gameplay, including character leveling, gear upgrades, and skill progression. You take on the role of Eivor, a Viking warrior with prophetic visions, who journeys from Norway to build a new settlement in 9th-century England. Valhalla offers a massive and detailed open world filled with things to discover, making it a game you can easily spend hours playing. However, the game’s main story arcs are filled with memorable characters and some of the best storytelling in the entire Assassin’s Creed series.
32. Destiny 2 (PS5)
Destiny 2 remains one of the best-feeling shooters available, with incredibly satisfying gunplay. It can be a bit overwhelming for newcomers, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll find tons of great things to do. From engaging story campaigns and cooperative missions to competitive multiplayer, the game is packed with content, and its excellent shooting mechanics tie it all together beautifully.
31. Immortals Fenyx Rising (PS5)
Immortals Fenyx Rising is an open-world fantasy role-playing game created by the team behind the popular Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. You play as Fenyx, a hero you can customize, and your mission is to save the world from a spreading corruption caused by the mythological figure Typhon. The game is deeply rooted in Greek mythology, but it tells its story with a lighthearted tone, using funny characters and quirky narration, making it an enjoyable experience for players of any age.
