According to a new report from Semafor, Donald Trump has been urging billionaire Larry Ellison and his son, David, to bring back the Rush Hour movies at Paramount. The series, known for starring Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, was a popular buddy-cop franchise.
The New York Post reports that the future of this effort depends on whether the Ellison family can buy Warner Bros. Discovery. Paramount Global, led by Larry Ellison’s son David, is also trying to acquire the company.
If the acquisition succeeds, the Ellisons would control the rights to the Rush Hour films.

According to a report in the Post citing Semafor, Donald Trump has been urging Larry Ellison to revive the Bloodsport franchise and create similar high-energy action-comedies from the 1980s and 90s. Sources say this reflects Trump’s personal fondness for those films, including Bloodsport, which he has publicly complimented.
The Rush Hour movies, which came out between 1998 and 2007, were known for their mix of action, comedy, and humor that came from the different backgrounds of the main characters. The first movie was very popular, but interest started to decrease with each sequel.

Brett Ratner, who originally directed the film series, has been largely out of the public eye since accusations of misconduct arose in 2017, as the Washington Post highlights. Despite this, he’s been quietly working on another project: a documentary for Amazon that included following First Lady Melania Trump.
Adding to the links between Donald Trump and the Rush Hour film series, Arthur Sarkissian – a longtime producer of the action comedies – now heads the company that made The Man You Don’t Know. This documentary presents a positive view of Trump and features interviews with his family members.

Donald Trump has long been interested in bringing back popular action movie and sports franchises. He’s previously hosted stars like Sylvester Stallone and Mike Tyson at the White House, and Variety reports he even considered holding a UFC fight on the White House lawn, with Paramount broadcasting it.
Something that might please Donald Trump is that neither Jackie Chan nor Chris Tucker has ever spoken out against him publicly. Back in 2016, Chan suggested people should “give him a chance,” and in 2018, Chris Tucker told Piers Morgan he hoped Trump would “do good.”

As a movie fan, I’m hearing some interesting things about a potential Rush Hour revival. Apparently, Paramount Skydance – a company that got some support from the previous administration – is hoping to make it happen, and the former president seems genuinely excited about it. It’s not a done deal yet, though – it’s still just a proposal, not something that’s officially in production. It seems like his interest is a mix of actually wanting to see another movie and good timing on their part.
If the deal goes through, the Ellisons could potentially revive the popular action duo of Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker, which is something the president is hoping for.
