The October update for Windows 11 brought important security improvements and a few new features. However, it also contained a bug that could negatively impact gaming performance on certain computers.
Following the release of the Windows 11 October 2025 Update (KB5066835), some gamers with NVIDIA graphics cards experienced performance drops. NVIDIA has acknowledged the problem and provided a quick update to fix it.
The new GeForce Hotfix Display Driver, version 581.94, improves performance in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Europa Universalis V. It’s built on the latest Game Ready Driver from NVIDIA.
This quick update resolves a problem. The improvements in GeForce Hotfix Display Driver version 581.94 will also be included in NVIDIA’s next regularly scheduled driver release.
I recently learned from NVIDIA that they’re releasing ‘GeForce Hotfix’ drivers as a way to deliver important fixes to users faster. They explained these aren’t full new drivers, but rather updates to the last version, including a few specific improvements.
We’re using your feedback from the Driver Feedback threads, along with how easily we can fix things, to decide what improvements to include. These updates, and others, will be available in our next official driver release, after which we’ll remove the current hotfix driver.
NVIDIA’s announcement about the recent update didn’t say which graphics cards were impacted or which games experienced performance issues after the Windows 11 October 2025 Update. A user on X, Sebastian Castellanos, shared performance tests for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, showing how the game ran before and after NVIDIA released a fix. The results were significant: the game averaged 149.7 frames per second (FPS) before the update, and 202.3 FPS after the fix was applied.
Another X user, Daniel Nowak, also saw significantly better FPS after the hotfix.
How well a game runs will naturally depend on your computer and the specific game. However, it’s obvious that computers with this issue will run noticeably slower if the update isn’t installed.
These driver updates are still in testing, and NVIDIA hasn’t fully tested them. If you’d prefer to use more stable drivers or don’t need this fix right away, you can wait for the next official driver release.
