Fantastic Four Shuts Down Rob Liefeld Criticism with Two Words

Following criticism from Rob Liefeld, the creator of Deadpool, a superhero actor addressed the comments online with a concise and impactful response.

On X (formerly Twitter), comic book creator Rob Liefeld criticized the CGI in the new Fantastic Four: First Steps film, calling it “so fake.” Ralph Ineson, who plays Galactus in the movie, responded with a playful jab, simply writing “rent free” and adding a laughing-crying emoji, implying Liefeld’s comments were giving the film free publicity.

The movie The Fantastic Four: First Steps officially introduces Marvel’s First Family into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and marks another attempt to launch them into their own live-action film. While several adaptations have been made, this version is considered one of the better ones. The story serves as an origin tale, focusing on the Fantastic Four’s efforts to save the world from Galactus while also protecting the son of Sue Storm and Reed Richards. Visually, the film is straightforward but benefits from a retro-futuristic style. However, a recent post by writers Ineson and Liefeld on X highlights growing concerns about the quality of recent Marvel Studios projects.

Marvel Studios Has Inconsistent FX and CGI In Their Movies and Shows

Okay, I have to say, it feels a little strange that Rob Liefeld is bringing up the visual effects in The Fantastic Four: First Steps months after it came out. It almost seems like he’s just now fixating on it, and maybe, as some have pointed out, it’s just stuck in his head. But even if that’s true, it doesn’t let Marvel Studios off the hook! A lot of us fans – and critics too – have been noticing some inconsistent CGI and effects lately. It’s just surprising, considering how much money and amazing technology Marvel has access to. You’d think everything would look incredible, but unfortunately, some recent projects have really been let down by the visual effects.

While earlier Marvel movies and shows generally maintained a high quality, more recent titles like She-Hulk: Attorney At Law and Ant-Man: Quantumania have shown a noticeable decline. Even though the visual effects in The Fantastic Four: First Steps aren’t Marvel’s best, they aren’t the worst either.

You can now watch The Fantastic Four: First Steps on Disney+, giving Marvel enthusiasts a chance to see Galactus in action.
