Why Derek Hough Calls DWTS the “Little Engine That Could”

Dancing with the Stars has become even more popular than Derek Hough anticipated. He recently told TopMob News that the show is “defying all the odds,” achieving record-breaking viewership and making television history. Hough, who has been involved with the show since 2007, sensed this season would be different from the start. The excitement surrounding Robert Irwin’s casting confirmed his feeling that something special was happening, and the show has since become a massive hit. This season has already received more votes than any other in the show’s 20-year history. As the November 24th finale approaches, fans are eagerly voting to choose between Robert Irwin, Alix Earle, Dylan Efron, Jordan Chiles, or Elaine Hendrix as the winner.

That’s exactly what makes the show, well, a showstopper.

You know, as a longtime fan, it’s really interesting to hear what Derek Hough has been saying. He’s noticed that this new generation actually wants the experience of traditional TV! They’re not into waiting to stream things; they want to settle in and watch their shows live, just like we used to. It’s a refreshing change of pace, honestly.

And they’re getting their entire crew to lock in.

For years, people would jokingly say their grandmothers were fans of the show. Now, it’s completely flipped! Parents are now telling their kids that it’s a must-watch. It’s become a show that brings families together, and it’s amazing to see multiple generations enjoying it together.

Derek Hough shares a strong bond with his family and a close working relationship with his fellow judges, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli.

He described their connection as a true family bond, explaining they’ve known each other for years. Bruno gave him some of his earliest professional choreography opportunities, and Carrie was with him on his first tour as a backup dancer for Dancing with the Stars. He said it’s been an incredible experience.

He’s also planning to stay busy after the season ends. Just months after he and his wife, Hayley Erbert, welcome their first child, they’ll embark on a 40-city dance tour across the United States called Derek Hough Symphony of Dance: Encore.

Hough shared their excitement about becoming parents and continuing to pursue their shared passion for performing.

In the meantime, get to know the contestants of season 34 and watch the romance and excitement unfold on the dance floor!
