Stranger Things’ Charlie Heaton Makes Rare Comments About Fatherhood

Charlie Heaton is no stranger to hard things. 

At 31, Stranger Things actor Devon Sawa has spoken openly about becoming a father at a young age. He shares his 11-year-old son, Archie, with his former bandmate, Akiko Matsuura.

Becoming a father at a young age forces you to mature quickly,” Charlie told Wonderland magazine in a November 25th interview. “It also teaches you what’s truly important and the responsibility of caring for another person.

The Industry star noted that becoming a parent is a “big thing” to balance, especially at that age. 

He explained that, as a parent, you naturally want to shower your children with love and positive experiences. He acknowledged that being apart is the most challenging aspect, but added that it’s simply a part of what you give up as a parent.

Charlie also thought about his almost ten-year relationship with his Stranger Things co-star, Natalia Dyer. They first appeared together as a couple on the red carpet in 2017.

He said it’s been wonderful working with his best friend. Being able to share the stress of job hunting with someone who truly understands – because they’ve been there too – has been a great support for both of them.

Charlie and Natalia have maintained a good relationship both while filming and in their personal lives, and it actually enhances their on-screen chemistry.

It’s great to have someone you can talk to – whether you’re processing a difficult experience, having a bad day at work, or feeling frustrated with how something went. Being able to truly understand each other on that level is really valuable.

Natalia had mentioned before how much she enjoyed working with Charlie, even while they were in a relationship, calling it “really fun.”

She told Refinery29 in 2019 that it’s unique working with a romantic partner. ‘We’re very comfortable with each other, which allows us to be playful, feel more freedom, and discuss things openly beforehand,’ she explained.
