It’s been almost three months since Helldivers 2 received its last major content update, the Dust Devils Warbond, which launched in early September with the ‘Into the Unjust’ update. The developers have been prioritizing improving the game’s performance and stability rather than adding new features, as Helldivers 2 was experiencing significant technical issues.

After fixing a lot of the initial problems on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PlayStation 5, the developers are releasing a new update called Python Commandos on December 2nd. This update adds a new tactic to the game that many players, including myself, have been requesting for a long time.

The M-1000 Maxigun is a powerful, portable minigun that you carry in a backpack. Based on the trailer for the game Python Commandos (available here), it appears to significantly outperform the machine guns in Helldivers 2 in terms of firepower. However, you’ll need to stay in one place while using it.

Honestly, the minigun alone makes this Warbond worth buying – I’m really excited to finally play as a heavy gunner in the Galactic War! But Arrowhead also added a cool chainsaw weapon, the CQC-9 Defoliation Tool. It might not be very effective on harder difficulties because getting up close is dangerous, but it’s sure to be a lot of fun to use.

The chainsaw might become more useful with the Rock Solid armor passive found on the Python Commandos’ RS-20 Constrictor and RS-40 Beast of Prey armor sets. This passive protects you from being knocked down or thrown around, making it easier to keep sawing through large groups of Terminids or Illuminate enemies without being interrupted.

The Warbond also adds new ways to play, including the AR/GL-21 One Two – an assault rifle with a built-in grenade launcher – and a special version of the mobile sentry drones called the AX/FLAM-75 “Guard Dog” Hot Dog, which functions as a flamethrower.

This Warbond also includes a variety of new cosmetic items like player banners, capes, and vehicle skins, all with a jungle camouflage theme. There’s even a fun new emote where your character does push-ups, and a special player title: Python Commando. Overall, with the new minigun, the jungle aesthetic, and the design of the RS-20 Constrictor helmet’s mask, this Warbond strongly evokes the classic movie Predator, and that’s something I really like.

While I was hoping for a new grenade or sidearm, this new Warbond for Python Commandos looks fantastic overall, and I’ll definitely be buying it as soon as it’s available. I’m especially excited about the minigun, which is confirmed to be able to penetrate the armor of most units from all three enemy factions.

Despite some recent technical issues, Helldivers 2 has had a fantastic year. Key moments included the intense ‘Battle for Super Earth’ in May and the popular launch on Xbox in August. The game continues to perform well on Xbox, and Sony views its release on the platform as a major achievement.
