Classic PS2 and OG Xbox Game Gets New Release After Recent Delisting

So, a game I used to play way back on the PS2 and original Xbox – it came out in 2005 – is back! It was taken off digital stores for a while, which honestly happens a lot with older games. Usually it’s because of licensing stuff or when the company that owns the game changes. It’s never a sure thing if they’ll bring it back, but thankfully, they did this time!

The survival-horror game Cold Fear, created by Darkworks, is now available for purchase on GOG. Originally published by Ubisoft, Cold Fear is a well-regarded cult classic often compared to Capcom’s Resident Evil series. Though not as popular, it remains a fondly remembered example of early 2000s horror gaming.

Recently, the PC version of Cold Fear was unexpectedly removed from Steam, making it harder for fans to play. This version was the easiest way to access the game, originally released on PS2 and Xbox. Thankfully, Cold Fear is now available on GOG thanks to its new publisher, Atari, which ensures it will be playable for years to come.

There’s a possibility Atari might re-release the game on Steam in the future. As of right now, they haven’t announced any plans to do so, so it’s not guaranteed. However, we might see the game available on Steam again sometime in the coming weeks or months, like it was before.

Atari’s recent acquisition of the rights to Cold Fear suggests they might be planning a larger revival of the game. This could take the form of a remastered version, a complete remake, or even a brand new sequel, going beyond just making it available on platforms like GOG. While it’s too early to say for sure, many games from the PlayStation 2 and Xbox era have been successfully brought back recently, so a Cold Fear revival wouldn’t be unexpected.
