Lanterns First Footage Reveals Key Details (And Confirms A Longtime Favorite Green Lantern)

Now that Superman is finished, DC is moving forward with Supergirl and Lanterns, and today we got our first look at footage from the Lanterns series. At an HBO Max event in São Paulo, Brazil, attendees saw a preview of the show, which revealed some important details and confirmed the inclusion of a beloved Green Lantern character. We’re really excited about this!

The short trailer shown at the event hasn’t been made public yet, but Omelete, who attended, shared details about it. The footage revealed that Hal Jordan and John Stewart have been partnered for a few months, with Jordan temporarily training Stewart—though it’s unclear who Jordan is filling in for. The trailer also included a glimpse of Ch’p, the beloved squirrel Lantern.

During one scene in the trailer, Jordan and Stewart have a disagreement, with Stewart claiming he’s a better rescuer. Jordan then starts flying, but he’s still wearing everyday clothes—the footage doesn’t show them in their Green Lantern suits or with any of their usual equipment, aside from their power rings.

We’re hoping the trailer comes out soon, but the show itself isn’t expected to premiere for a while – possibly not until next year. Still, the details we’ve heard so far are promising! It sounds like there will be complex relationships between the characters, and the show will blend the grand, cosmic themes the franchise is known for with a compelling central mystery.

It’s great that the show is referencing Ch’p, a lesser-known character! Hopefully, we’ll actually see him appear on screen. Ch’p is an alien from the planet H’lven, which was invaded by Doctor Ub’x’s forces. He bravely led the fight against Ub’x, and after receiving a Green Lantern Ring from the Guardians, he managed to defeat Ub’x and their army.

He quickly became a popular and reliable member of the team, proving that size doesn’t matter when it comes to strength. While Ch’p is also well-known—sadly, for his death in a previous story involving a yellow truck—it would be fantastic to see him appear in the new DC Universe, as he always adds a lot of excitement.

Lanterns is expected to be released after Supergirl in 2026.
