A special event is now available in Assassin’s Creed Shadows! It teams up characters from the game with those from Attack on Titan. Players can complete a limited-time quest in the Crystal Cave, where they’ll face a Titan. While the encounter isn’t as dramatic as it might seem, the update also includes new optional purchases that some players have criticized in the past.
I get why people complain about microtransactions, but honestly, the game’s creative director, Simon Lemay-Comtois, makes a good point. He says they’re actually what lets them keep adding cool stuff after launch – like the Isu storylines, new quests, and improvements to the parkour system. Basically, without them, we wouldn’t get all these updates!
That’s a fair point, especially considering all the free updates – new story missions, characters to team up with, things to do like the Corrupted Castles, higher level caps, and fresh abilities. On top of that, Naoe is even more enjoyable to play with the added parkour moves, which is a great improvement.
However, the way this collaboration was executed has received criticism. One Twitter user, The Hidden One, described it as a “total mess,” pointing out that most of the collaborative quest involves repetitive climbing and swinging with poorly designed paths. They also found the cutscenes to be very low quality, especially when compared to the free Valley of Memory update for Assassin’s Creed Mirage.
What’s particularly frustrating is that completing the quest doesn’t reward you with the outfit itself—something fans expected, similar to the Mikasa Ackerman costume. Instead, you have to purchase it from the store, and many players are unhappy about this.
Ubisoft says the game is doing better than expected, so it’s likely they’ll add more optional purchases alongside the free updates. There are reports that a free co-op mode is coming next year, and before that, the Shadows expansion will be available on the Switch 2 starting December 2nd.
