Moon Knight’s Season 2 Rumor Reveals Long-Awaited Future & Midnight Sons Story

Be aware! Upcoming content may reveal spoilers for Ironheart. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has long been hinting at a character named Mephisto (portrayed by Sacha Baron Cohen), and his introduction has just occurred. With him now present, there are virtually no boundaries to the storylines he could be involved in. Some fans are speculating about future events like Avengers: Doomsday and large-scale crossovers, but a recent rumor from The Cosmic Circus hints that Mephisto’s next plan might center around Moon Knight (Oscar Isaac). According to sources privy to Marvel Studios’ plans, they intend to adapt the “Damnation” storyline for the MCU. If true, this could require alterations to fit with the existing roster or the rapid introduction of numerous new characters beforehand.

The four-issue series titled ‘Damnation’ was penned by Donny Cates and Nick Spencer, illustrated by Rod Reis. This storyline extended to other monthly titles too. In this tale, Mephisto seized control of Las Vegas, striving to make it a real-life version of hell. The Midnight Sons – comprising Moon Knight, Blade, Ghost Rider, Elsa Bloodstone, Man-Thing, and Doctor Voodoo – stood against him. Additionally, they encountered the Avengers who were under Mephisto’s spell, forced to fight on his behalf.

This tale is quite engaging, and one can easily visualize it playing out well on-screen. Although the Marvel Cinematic Universe lacks many of the necessary characters, it’s evident that the franchise prefers to deviate from strict comic book adaptations. Instead, they usually introduce their unique spin on stories, and in this scenario, they might apply that approach using the existing characters at their disposal.

The focus lies on releasing Mephisto’s influence over heroes, including Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne), as seen in the conclusion of Ironheart. Given this predicament, it seems plausible for her character to initially be under Mephisto’s control before breaking free. Unfortunately, if the speculated timeline is accurate, she may remain enslaved by his spell for a considerable length of time.

It’s been hinted that Marvel intends to delve into the “Damnation” storyline following the end of the Multiverse Saga, requiring some additional setup first. Firstly, the much-anticipated Blade film will introduce both Blade and his adversary Lilith. Subsequently, fresh seasons of Moon Knight and Werewolf by Night will gradually assemble The Midnight Sons team. The magical dimensions of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) will subsequently be expanded in a Strange Academy adaptation, featuring characters such as Wong (Benedict Wong), America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), The Hood (Anthony Ramos), Zelma Stanton (Reagan Aliyah), and other magic-users. It’s possible that Ghost Rider may make an appearance, along with more demonic entities like Mephisto, leading up to this grand crossover event, which is likely to be presented as a movie.

So far, all these details are just speculation and could shift at any moment during the development process. Given the rocky beginning of the Multiverse Saga, it’s evident that these narratives should be adaptable. As of now, we don’t have a definite timeline for when most of these characters will reappear, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe is back in theaters on July 25th with The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
