Summer 2025 brought a fantastic new season of anime, featuring popular continuations like Dandadan Season 2, My Dress-Up Darling Season 2, and Kaiju No. 8 Season 2. Alongside returning favorites, several highly anticipated new shows premiered, including The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity, Gachiakuta, and The Summer Hikaru Died. While many series gained a lot of attention, some truly excellent anime didn’t find a large audience, despite having beautiful animation and compelling stories. Secrets of the Silent Witch is a prime example – it received rave reviews from critics but didn’t get the recognition it deserved.
The anime finished its first season of 13 episodes in October. While it’s been a few weeks since the finale, there’s still no news about a second season, and it’s possible one may never happen. However, the light novel series that the anime is based on – written by Matsuri Isora and illustrated by Nanna Fujimi – recently achieved a major honor. It took first place in the Tankobon category of the Konorano Ranking 2026, a highly respected award for Japanese light novels. This success is seen by fans as a strong indication of the story’s quality and potential for continuation.
What Is the Plot of Secrets of the Silent Witch?
The story takes place in the made-up kingdom of Ridill, where the people of Count Kerbeck’s land have fought dragons for centuries. Because magic is the only thing that can defeat these powerful creatures, its use is considered miraculous. Black dragons are especially feared—they’ve only appeared twice in history, and each time, entire towns were destroyed. The story opens with the arrival of another black dragon, filling everyone with dread and the sense that disaster is coming.
No one imagined a single girl could defeat the dragon so easily. Monica Everett is a uniquely powerful mage – she doesn’t need enchanted spells to use magic. As one of the Seven Sages, the kingdom’s most skilled mages, she’s incredibly renowned. In fact, she’s the only person ever to master silent magic, earning her the name the Silent Witch.
She prefers a quiet, solitary life, but when a fellow Sage asks her to protect Prince Felix, whose life is threatened, she’s pulled into a dangerous mission. To keep him safe without revealing her involvement, she must disguise herself as a student at Serendia Academy, battling her own social anxiety while trying to fulfill her duty.
