The first Zootopia film featured a great voice cast, which is typical for a Disney animated movie. However, Zootopia 2 takes it to another level! In addition to the returning stars like Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Idris Elba, and Jenny Slate, the sequel welcomes a huge number of talented new voices playing both funny and occasionally menacing animals. Some of these actors have quick cameos, while others have more significant parts. Here’s a look at some of the most exciting new additions to the Zootopia universe.
Now that Zootopia 2 is out in cinemas, which character are you most looking forward to seeing? If you’ve already watched it, did you know who the actors were just by hearing their voices?
Minor spoilers for Zootopia 2 follow.
15) Dwayne Johnson

Between filming his role as Maui in Moana 2 and the upcoming live-action Moana movie, Dwayne Johnson voiced a small character named Zeke in Zootopia. Zeke is a tiny antelope who briefly gets stuck inside a tuba during a chase scene – and yes, that really is Dwayne Johnson providing the voice for such a small character!
14) June Squibb

June Squibb, known for her roles in films like Nebraska and Thelma, has been a consistent voice actor in Disney animated movies, including Ralph Breaks the Internet, Toy Story 4, Soul, and the new Inside Out 2. She’ll also be appearing in Zootopia 2 as Gram Gram, the grandmother of Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin).
13) Ed Sheeran

Okay, so Ed Shearin is a hilarious character, and honestly, the name is a brilliant nod to Ed Sheeran! He’s a sheep who, through a shaving mishap, ends up looking like he’s rocking a bra and tutu – it’s a really funny visual. I knew Ed Sheeran had done voice work before, like on The Simpsons, but this is actually the first time he’s voiced a character in a full-on animated movie, which is pretty cool!
12) Tommy Lister Jr.

Tommy Lister Jr., known for his role in Friday, was originally in the movie Zootopia. Though he sadly passed away in 2020, his family generously permitted Disney to use previously unreleased recordings from the first film. This allowed him to reprise his role as Finnick, the fennec fox and former partner of Nick Wilde (voiced by Jason Bateman) from Nick’s days as a con artist.
11) John Leguizamo

John Leguizamo is a familiar voice in animated movies, best known as Sid the Sloth from the Ice Age films. He also voiced Bruno in Disney’s Encanto, and now he’s returning as Antony Snootley in Zootopia 2. Snootley is a giant anteater who secretly brings a snake into Zootopia, leading to a pursuit with Judy and Nick. He’s a bit of a nervous, small-time criminal, but ultimately a good guy.
10) Michael J. Fox

Michael J. Fox, famous for Back to the Future, makes a brief appearance in Zootopia as a grumpy prisoner named Michael J. The Fox. This marks Fox’s first acting role since his retirement in 2020, and his character’s witty lines are as playful as his name suggests. However, voicing animal characters isn’t new for Fox – he previously voiced Chance the dog in the Homeward Bound films and starred as Stuart Little in three movies. He also lent his voice to Milo Thatch in Disney’s Atlantis: The Lost Empire.
9) David Strathairn

David Strathairn, known for his excellent work in films like L.A. Confidential, Good Night, and Good Luck, and Nomadland, is voicing a character in an animated film for the first time. He plays Milton Lynxley, the head of the Lynxly family and a ruthless businessman who often puts profits before his children’s needs.
8) Andy Samberg

Pawbert Lynxley seems gentler and more easygoing than his siblings, Cattrick and Kitty, though he can be a bit clumsy. He’s also easily influenced by his strong-willed father. Actor Andy Samberg is well-known for his voice work in animated films, having played characters like Ham III in Space Chimps, Brent McHale in Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and its sequel, Junior in Storks, Johnny Loughran in the Hotel Transylvania series, Scarlet Spider in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Stewie in the English dub of Arco, and Dale in Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers (where his character was animated despite the live-action setting).
7) Ke Huy Quan

Ke Huy Quan is continuing his impressive comeback with a major role in the new Zootopia movie, voicing the character of Gary De’Snake. Gary is a 33-foot-long pit viper who appears to be the main villain, but he’s surprisingly cheerful, talkative, and friendly. This isn’t the first time Quan has lent his voice to a big animated film – he previously voiced Han in Kung Fu Panda 4 – and he also played a key role in Season 2 of Disney’s Loki.
6) Quinta Brunson

Quinta Brunson, the creator and star of Abbott Elementary, will make her first appearance in an animated movie as Dr. Fuzzby, a quokka who leads a therapy group at the Zootopia Police Department. Judy and Nick are among those who attend. Brunson is also working on another animated film: The Cat in the Hat.
5) Danny Trejo

Danny Trejo, known for his roles in films like Heat and Machete, voices the character of Jesús – a unique basilisk with a distinctive look: a brown fringed jacket, red pants, and a large cowboy hat. Though his part is brief, Trejo helps advance the story. This marks Trejo’s first time voicing a character in a Disney production, though he previously lent his voice to The Book of Life, Storks, and Minions: The Rise of Gru.
4) Stephanie Beatriz

Stephanie Beatriz, known for her role in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, will appear in Disney’s Zootopia alongside Andy Samberg. She’ll be voicing Bloats, one of the hippopotamus officers in the Zootopia Police Department. Beatriz has also lent her voice to several other popular animated projects, including Ice Age: Collision Course, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, Catwoman: Hunted, Bob’s Burgers (and its film), Encanto, and BoJack Horseman.
3) Macaulay Culkin

Cattrick Lynxley, the older son of Milton Lynxley, shares his father’s drive, cunning, and business sense. He’s also the son Milton favors. Despite his serious side, Cattrick, like many cats, enjoys a simple pleasure – playing with yarn. This project marks Macaulay Culkin’s return to acting after Changeland, and it’s his first voice role in a Disney production.
2) Brenda Song

Macaulay Culkin’s wife, Brenda Song, plays his character’s sister, Kitty Lynxley, in the film. Kitty is described as having gray fur, green eyes, and a love for jewelry. Similar to the other family members, she can be quite critical of people she doesn’t know well. Many will recognize Brenda Song as a former Disney star, known for her roles in The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and The Suite Life on Deck.
1) Josh Gad

Similar to Dwayne Johnson, Josh Gad is stepping away from his famous Disney role for a quick appearance in Zootopia 2. He’ll be playing Paul Moldebrandt, a mole who’s the somewhat grumpy IT specialist for the Zootopia Police Department.
