Mark Ballas’ Wife Suffered Pregnancy Loss During 2022 DWTS Semifinals

Dancing With the Stars‘ 31nd season was full of highs and lows for Mark Ballas.

Despite winning the Mirrorball Trophy with Charli D’Amelio in 2022, the 39-year-old and his wife, BC Jean, experienced a heartbreaking loss while competing on the show.

Mark revealed on the Nov. 26 episode of Call Her Daddy that his wife was pregnant during that season, but they tragically lost the baby before the semifinals. He explained he had to leave his wife’s appointment to have the procedure done in order to perform in the semifinal, and then continue the show. He said the experience was incredibly draining.

The couple later shared on social media that just as they were preparing to announce their pregnancy to loved ones, they received devastating news: their baby wouldn’t survive. They described it as a uniquely painful experience, different from any hardship they’d faced before.

Already dealing with physical injuries, the three-time Dancing with the Stars champion thought he might have to give up dancing completely. However, the birth of his son, Banksy, in 2023 changed his mind.

He told Alex Cooper he didn’t want to be a dad who talks about his past as a dancer. That’s why he focused on getting back in shape, working hard, and feeling good physically again.

Although Mark knew his body wouldn’t fully recover, he wasn’t ready to leave Dancing with the Stars. He came back for the show’s 34th season and was paired with dancer Whitney Leavitt.

Mark described how he and the other person connected quickly. They enjoyed each other’s company, sharing a lot of laughs and playfully teasing each other, which he found particularly enjoyable. He said they had great chemistry and loved their back-and-forth conversations.

Even though he was a consistently high scorer, he and his partner, Whitney, were eliminated in the semifinals on November 18th.

As someone who follows these stories closely, I can tell you that losing Mark was incredibly difficult for one of the stars of Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. It was a genuinely tough moment for her, and a really emotional goodbye.

Leaving the show feels like going through a breakup, because you develop close, lasting friendships with the cast and crew – especially with Mark. You spend so much time with everyone daily, it’s hard not to feel sad. But overall, I’m leaving feeling thankful for the experience.
