Wonder Man is the newest addition to the popular Marvel Cinematic Universe. Created by Destin Daniel Cretton (known for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Spider-Man: Brand New Day), this Disney+ series features Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Phillips, an actor and superhero who’s facing hard times. As the first live-action MCU series of Phase 6, debuting in 2026, Wonder Man will help set the stage for the epic conclusion of the Multiverse Saga.
Wonder Man offers a fresh, satirical take on the superhero world, playfully poking fun at the Marvel Cinematic Universe while also expanding its story. It’s designed to be a welcome change for viewers who are feeling superhero fatigue. The series will debut with an unusual release plan early next year – here’s where and when you can watch the new episodes.
When Will Wonder Man Be on Disney+?
I’m so excited for the next Disney+ Marvel series! It’s officially coming out on January 27th, 2026. It was originally supposed to be released in late 2025, so it’s a bit of a wait, but honestly, I’m okay with that. Apparently, Marvel didn’t want Wonder Man to get lost in all the holiday shows that come out in December. January is usually a slower month for new releases, so this new series should really get the attention it deserves. I can’t wait!
Wonder Man is set to premiere around the same time as Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man did earlier this year, with the first episodes launching on January 29, 2025. Traditionally, January hasn’t been a major release month for Marvel, as they usually begin new series in February. However, the successful debut of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man seems to have encouraged Marvel to use the same timeframe for Wonder Man.
Marvel recently announced that the entire first season of its new series will be available to stream on Disney+ all at once on January 27th. This means viewers can watch all eight episodes immediately, instead of waiting for them weekly. joins Echo as only the second live-action Marvel series released this way. Some fans are interpreting this as a sign that Marvel isn’t confident in the show, but the franchise has tried different release strategies in the past, so it’s likely nothing to be concerned about at this point.
So, I just found out each episode is going to be between 20 and 40 minutes long. That’s definitely shorter than your typical TV drama, which usually runs for 44 minutes or even over an hour. It makes sense, though – streaming shows don’t have to fit into specific time slots with commercials like they used to. Disney+ seems to be doing a lot of shorter episodes, and honestly? It’ll make it super easy to binge the whole series in a single day. But, I’m a little worried it might feel a bit rushed for anyone hoping for a really deep, complex story.
How Does Wonder Man Fit in the MCU?
Okay, so I’m really excited about Wonder Man, but it’s still a bit of a mystery how it all connects to the bigger picture of the Multiverse Saga. From what I’ve gathered, it seems like a pretty self-contained story, with a few familiar faces popping up, but nothing that’s going to drastically change things for the rest of the MCU. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a surprise cameo or two, but honestly, I wouldn’t expect to see any of the Avengers showing up in the eight episodes. It looks like this one’s mostly its own thing, which is totally fine with me!
Rather than featuring big-name cameos, the Wonder Man series is expected to establish the character for a larger future role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the comics, Simon Phillips—Wonder Man—has been a member of prominent teams like the Avengers. There’s speculation that the West Coast Avengers might be forming in the MCU, potentially with Shang-Chi, Ant-Man, Wasp, and She-Hulk as members. If this happens, Wonder Man could easily join them, balancing superheroics with his Hollywood career.
It’s currently unknown if Marvel will feature Simon Williams (Wonder Man) in its future Avengers movies. While his recent introduction to the MCU seems like a tight timeframe before the upcoming Doomsday and Secret Wars films, the fact that Wonder Man was actually filmed almost two years ago raises the possibility of Yahya Abdul-Mateen returning for the crossover event. However, considering the large casts planned for both Doomsday and Secret Wars, Wonder Man would likely have a small role, even if he appears.
Beyond simply tying into the bigger Marvel Cinematic Universe, Wonder Man cleverly comments on the superhero genre itself. It’s similar to shows like The Franchise and The Studio, which playfully satirize Hollywood. Like Deadpool and She-Hulk, Wonder Man doesn’t shy away from poking fun at Marvel. The show is even directly tackling the issue of “superhero fatigue,” something Marvel has been particularly aware of. So, while it might not have obvious connections to other Marvel projects, Wonder Man is definitely aware of the wider cinematic universe.
Wonder Man Full Cast and Character List (So Far)
The series will feature several returning characters, including Trevor Slattery, played by Ben Kingsley. Slattery is a British actor who becomes friends with Phillips as he tries to succeed in Hollywood. Kingsley first portrayed Slattery in the 2013 film Iron Man, where his character was used as a fake Mandarin to hide a larger threat from A.I.M. Kingsley reprised the role in the one-shot film “All Hail the King” and later appeared in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings as a prisoner of the real Mandarin.
Arian Moayed is back as Agent Cleary, who works for the Department of Damage Control. He first appeared in the 2021 film Spider-Man: No Way Home and then in the 2022 series Ms. Marvel. Cleary, known for his grumpy and distrustful nature, is quickly becoming a regular character representing the government within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, similar to how Phil Coulson was an important figure in the early phases of the MCU. It’s currently unknown what Cleary will be investigating in the upcoming series Wonder Man.
Demetrius Grosse is joining the cast of Wonder Man as Eric Williams, the series’ main villain. Eric is Simon’s brother and will eventually become known as the Grim Reaper. The show is expected to focus on a conflict between Wonder Man and the Grim Reaper, though there might be another hidden villain. Ed Harris will play talent agent Neal Saroyan, and Zlatko Burić will portray the reclusive director Van Kovac. Josh Gad will also appear in a cameo role as himself.
The release of Wonder Man is almost here, and soon viewers will be able to judge for themselves if it brings something new to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or if it’s just another easily overlooked show on Disney+.
Wonder Man premieres on January 27, 2026, only on Disney+.
