Okay, fellow movie and TV lovers, the final season of Stranger Things is here, and it’s been wild! We all expected to see the usual crew back for one last ride, but Volume 1 threw a total curveball. Can you believe they brought Kali – or Eight, as she’s known – back into the mix? It’s been two seasons since we last saw her! The creators have finally explained why they decided to bring Linnea Berthelsen’s character back, and honestly, it’s a pretty interesting story.
Duffer Brothers say ‘it felt wrong to not bring’ Kali back in Stranger Things Season 5
Ross Duffer shared that he and his brother, Matt, purposefully held off bringing Kali back until the last season of Stranger Things. They wanted her return to significantly affect Eleven’s story (played by Millie Bobby Brown).
The Emmy-nominated producer told Deadline they’ve always hoped to have Linnea reprise her role, recognizing her talent. They discussed bringing her back each year, wanting to ensure she had a meaningful part to play, not just a cameo. As the show reaches its final season, they felt it was important to include her and allow her to contribute to Eleven’s story.
Ross Duffer also discussed Kali’s unexpected return for the fifth season of Stranger Things. He explained they didn’t want her appearance to feel like an unresolved plot point or a mistake. They felt it was crucial to include her in the final story, and as the season progresses, her connection to Eleven’s story and her important role become clear.
In Season 5, Episode 4, called “Sorcerer,” Eleven and Jim Hopper (played by David Harbour) find out that Dr. Kay, portrayed by Linda Hamilton, has taken Kali captive. Dr. Kay is using Kali to try and weaken Eleven’s powers.
Okay, so Linnea Berthelsen was back as Kali this week – I remember her first popping up way back in Season 2, Episode 7. Honestly, though, I’m really curious to see where they’re going with Kali’s storyline now that this is the final season of the show. It’s a bit of a mystery right now!
The final season of Stranger Things, Season 5, will be released on Netflix in two parts, with the second part arriving on December 25, 2025.
