Billy Crudup Gives Insight on Co-Parenting With Ex Mary-Louise Parker

Billy Crudup is getting candid about his personal life—almost.

Billy Crudup, known for his role on The Morning Show, recently opened up about his relationship with his ex-partner, Mary-Louise Parker. He shared that despite a challenging split, they’ve prioritized raising their 21-year-old son, William Atticus Parker, together.

When asked about his current relationship with Mary-Louise, Billy told The Times in a November 27th interview, “We don’t want to discuss the details, but our love for our son is endless. He’s inherited the best qualities from both of us and has an incredible talent for performing.”

The 57-year-old revealed that William is a very creative person – he’s already worked as an actor, director, and writer, and has even made a few low-budget films.

“He’s such a badass,” Billy gushed. “Mary-Louise and I appeared in most of his films.”

Mary-Louise, now 61, and Billy were together from 1996 to 2003. He ended the relationship while she was seven months pregnant with their son, William, and went on to date Claire Danes for three years. They met while working on the movie Stage Beauty in 2004.

Although Mary-Louise and Billy haven’t often discussed their breakup, she spoke highly of him after he married Naomi Watts in 2023.

She told The Guardian she wished them all the best, adding that she genuinely wanted them to be happy because they are the father of her son. She expressed her happiness that they had found each other.

The actress known for her role in Angels in America previously discussed her relationship and split in her 2015 memoir, Dear Mr. You. The book is written as a series of letters to men she’s known. In one letter, she recounts an incident with a cabdriver who asked her to leave his taxi after she became upset following her breakup.

“I’m completely on my own,” she wrote. “I’m pregnant, and there’s no one here with me. It’s physically painful just to breathe. I’m doing my best to cope, but I face every night and every morning by myself, and nothing seems to make it better.”

Billy briefly talked about the breakup in 2004, but admitted he wasn’t eager to discuss it.

He explained to The New York Times in a 2004 profile that the situation was deeply personal and emotionally difficult, involving a baby, and shouldn’t be used simply to attract attention or entertain people.

Billy stated he’s always believed his personal life shouldn’t be connected to his professional work. Therefore, any stories about it are simply rumors, guesses, or made up. He feels every published report on the topic causes unnecessary pain.

Claire Danes has also moved on, having been married to Hugh Dancy since 2009. They have three children together: Cyrus, 12, Rowan, 7, and a daughter born in 2023. However, she has spoken in the past about her relationship with Billy.

“It was incredibly difficult,” she shared on The Howard Stern Show in 2015. “I didn’t know how to stop myself. I was simply in love with him and wanted to see where it went, and I was only 24 years old.”

The Emmy winner added, “I didn’t quite know what those consequences would be.”
