Ariana Grande hopes her critics can be changed for the better.
The actress from Wicked: For Good recently responded to ongoing criticism about her body by referencing a post she made almost a year ago during promotion for the first Wicked film.
She shared a post to her Instagram Stories on November 29th, explaining it was a repeat from the previous year and meant to be a kind reminder for everyone.
In a recent interview last December, the 32-year-old got emotional while discussing how her looks have been heavily scrutinized throughout her time in the spotlight.
She explained that she’s been under public scrutiny since she was a teenager, feeling like she’s constantly being analyzed. ‘I’ve heard every criticism imaginable,’ she said, sitting with her co-star Cynthia Erivo on their web series, Oui Oui Baguette. ‘And no matter what you do to address those criticisms, there’s always something else people will find wrong.’
The singer of “No Tears Left to Cry” admitted that many others experience the same kind of criticism.
She added that it’s difficult to block out that kind of negativity, and it’s upsetting no matter how much of it you encounter.
Ariana called the spread of rumors “harmful to everyone,” and explained how she deals with the negative attention she gets.

She expressed gratitude for the people who support her, and shared that she feels confident and comfortable with who she is.
Even though Ariana Grande generally stays positive, she recently shared that being in the public eye and dealing with fame has been difficult for her at times.
In a recent interview with The New York Times, published on November 5th, she explained that it used to be very difficult for her to get around, and that this had diminished her enjoyment of things.
Ariana’s ability to separate her public life from her personal life has really helped her, and it’s made a huge positive impact.
She shared that she’s feeling more connected to and inspired by her art than ever before, which she considers a wonderful gift. It’s allowed her to realize she doesn’t need to live up to others’ expectations and can instead focus solely on her creative work, but she first had to allow herself to believe that was possible.
Ariana isn’t alone – many celebrities have spoken out about being body shamed. Read on to hear what others have said about this issue.

Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe’s daughter shared on TikTok that she recently experienced something upsetting: two strangers made comments about her body. She posted about it on May 3rd, calling it a significant moment for her as a woman online.
She explained that one person told her she should use Ozempic because of her weight, while another accused her of being dangerously thin. She pointed out that her weight hadn’t changed during that time, and even if it had, it wouldn’t be anyone else’s concern.
Ava emphasized that everyone deserves to be accepted for who they are, regardless of their appearance. She explained that you never truly know what challenges someone is facing, and that true beauty goes far beyond how someone looks.

Following negative comments about her body, the singer of “I’m Good” responded to her critics, explaining she’s had enough of being judged for her appearance. In a tweet on June 23rd, she wrote, “I know I’ve gained weight, and I’m just really tired of people talking about it. Let’s move on!”
She also explained that people’s weight naturally changes, saying, “It’s a normal part of life, and you never know what someone else is dealing with – whether it’s medication, illness, or something else.”

Following criticism about her appearance in an Instagram photo, the actress known for The House Bunny responded to those commenting on her weight. She explained that while she usually doesn’t feel the need to address such comments, she wanted to speak out against body shaming. She admitted feeling upset by the inappropriate remarks left on her picture, especially since she was just having fun with the photos. She noted that the angle of the picture made her appear smaller than she is. Ultimately, she emphasized that people don’t have the right to publicly criticize or judge someone’s body, regardless of their own opinions.
She explained that commenting on her weight, whether to say she’s too thin or needs to eat, is unhelpful and hurtful. She firmly stated she won’t tolerate any form of body shaming.
Over a week later, she posted a bikini photo with a message for her critics. She wrote, “To those who dislike me… with love and thanks, here’s a kiss, and I’ll continue to smile no matter what!”

In February 2021, the actress publicly addressed rumors about her being pregnant. The speculation started after photos of her on a movie set in Australia, showing her wearing a dark blue tank top, were posted online. She directly criticized the New York Post in an Instagram Story, stating she wasn’t pregnant and questioning why it’s still acceptable to comment on a woman’s body in 2021.

The reality TV star from Flip or Flop recently addressed online criticism about her body. In a video posted to Instagram on February 7th, she explained that she’s at her natural weight and that people are simply noticing the changes after her pregnancies. She reassured fans that she’s healthy and doing well, asking them not to worry about her appearance.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve seen it happen too many times – people judging others based on their appearance. Recently, a singer found herself the target of online body-shaming, but she handled it brilliantly. She didn’t need to say a word; her response spoke volumes without her even uttering a single sound. It was a powerful statement about self-acceptance and shutting down negativity.
During her performance at Manchester Pride 2025, she wore a large T-shirt featuring a graphic of a woman in a cropped tank top and black pushup bra.

After her breakup with Jim Edmonds, the former Bravo star asked fans to stop commenting on her weight. She admitted on Instagram in December 2019, ‘I’m too thin,’ and responded to comments like ‘Eat a burger.’ She asked for understanding, explaining that she was prioritizing her children and handling a difficult situation with as much grace as possible.

The famous singer recently responded to criticism about her weight, telling Entertainment Tonight that she doesn’t see a problem with being thin. She explained that she’s always been slender, and stays in shape through ballet, stretching, and workouts which benefit her overall well-being – mind, body, and spirit.
If you put yourself out there, you’ll inevitably face criticism, and that’s okay. I prioritize my own well-being, letting go of anything that doesn’t serve me. I trust my team to handle any negative reactions, and ultimately, I’ve learned you can’t try to make everyone happy.

In June 2020, singer Lizzo responded to criticism about her body. In a TikTok video, she explained that she’s been consistently working out for five years, but not to meet anyone else’s expectations. She clarified she’s focused on achieving her ideal body, and that’s nobody’s concern. She powerfully stated that she is beautiful, strong, capable, and dedicated to her work.

The singer known for her song “Confident” has consistently spoken out against body shaming. In a 2016 interview with Glamour, she shared that when someone calls her fat, even when she’s feeling insecure, she simply laughs it off, knowing she’s doing her best. She also pointed out that she doesn’t have, nor does she necessarily want, a six-pack, finding the idea unappealing.

Following the actress’s decision to share a nude photo online, one person criticized her, writing in a now-deleted tweet that it was inappropriate for someone in their 50s to post such content, suggesting she should be enjoying time with her grandchildren instead. The commenter lamented a perceived lack of grace in aging.
Halle playfully responded to the criticism by sharing a surprising fact: “Did you know a shrimp’s heart is in its head?”

Singer Camila Cabello recently addressed online criticism on Instagram. She explained she’d been avoiding social media to protect her feelings, but accidentally saw people commenting on her body. Her initial reaction was insecurity about the photos, worrying about things like cellulite and not posing perfectly. However, she quickly realized it’s normal to have unflattering photos and that bodies aren’t meant to be perfect. She’s especially concerned about young girls growing up in a world filled with heavily edited images, which create unrealistic expectations. She wants her younger sister and other girls to understand that photoshopped pictures aren’t reality, and that constantly seeing airbrushed skin can make them believe that’s what’s normal. She emphasized that cellulite and fat are natural and beautiful, and she refuses to let those unrealistic standards affect her. She encouraged others to reject those standards too.

In May 2019, the singer shared a video of her performance at the Hangout Music Festival, where she was wearing a black leotard. Someone commented on social media, questioning why she didn’t appear as curvy as she used to, referencing a previous collaboration with two male country artists. The singer responded directly, stating she had gained weight and asking people to accept it.
She criticized the fashion industry for allegedly refusing to provide her with dresses for the Grammys because of her size. In a January 2019 Instagram post, she urged the industry to promote body positivity, stating, “Empower women to love their bodies instead of making girls and women feel bad about their size.” She emphasized that beauty comes in all sizes and affirmed she would still attend the Grammys, celebrating her body with the hashtag #LOVEYOURBODY.

The celebrity had previously shared a photo of her family celebrating the Golden State Warriors’ win over the Portland Trail Blazers in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals. In the picture, she’s holding her son, Canon. Someone then commented, asking if she was pregnant again.
Oh my gosh, when I asked if she’d pose for a pic, she was SO funny! She basically said ‘NO WAY!’ and explained her poor little guy – he’s like, thirty pounds! – is constantly trying to climb all over her, so every photo would just end up with her doubled over in pain. It was adorable, honestly, and made me love her even more! She’s so real.
Someone else commented that if the child weighed 30 pounds, they would have significant health problems. The cookbook author quickly responded, shutting down the criticism with a firm, “Excuse me? Absolutely not.”

Only a week after giving birth, the podcast host used Instagram to connect with her fans.
I’m really frustrated and need to get this off my chest,” she wrote in December 2018. She’d initially wanted to share a photo of her stomach to document her recovery journey, but she was glad she hadn’t. The comments on her previous photo were shockingly rude. She clarified that she hadn’t had a tummy tuck, a personal chef, or endless time to work out. She did have a C-section and was still in pain and taking medication, but she has a high pain tolerance. She’d also had three other stomach surgeries before (for her appendix and gallbladder). In the photo, she was wearing a belly wrap and high-waisted pants, and she couldn’t believe she even had to defend herself. She wondered why she’d likely be criticized even if she had posted the unedited photo, especially since she was trying to be open about her recovery. She questioned why women constantly compare and shame each other. She reminded herself, and others, that everyone is different. Our bodies are all uniquely beautiful, heal at different rates, and simply look different. Why do we feel the need to criticize someone for not fitting a certain ideal, or to feel bad about our own bodies? She urged everyone to be kinder to themselves, recognize that every woman’s journey is unique, and to lift each other up instead of tearing each other down. She expressed her love and then shifted the focus back to her baby.

In April 2018, actress Candace Cameron Bure posted a photo of herself having dinner with her son, Lev Bure. Someone commented negatively, questioning why she still appeared heavier than her husband despite her workout routine and asking if she’d changed her diet.
The actress quickly responded to the negative comment. She wrote, “If a 25-inch waist seems large to you, it’s because you’re viewing it with unrealistic expectations. Take care.”
