Netflix Lost 3 Christmas Movies at Once (Including One of the Best Christmas Movies of All Time)

It’s the perfect time for cozying up with Christmas movies, but Netflix subscribers might find their options shrinking soon. Netflix added some festive titles in November, like Merry Liddle Christmas, Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas, and Paddington 2. However, just as the holidays really get started, three Christmas movies – including a truly beloved classic – are leaving the streaming service.

It’s a disappointing weekend for fans of Christmas movies. Several titles have already left Netflix, starting with the critically acclaimed Tangerine which disappeared after midnight on November 30th. Subscribers have only a few hours left to watch two more holiday favorites before they’re gone on December 1st: Christmas with the Kranks, starring Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis (often considered one of the worst Christmas movies!), and The Night Before, a comedy with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, and Anthony Mackie about three friends on a wild Christmas Eve adventure.

Tangerine Is a Modern Christmas Classic

When we think of classic Christmas movies, titles like It’s a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, and A Christmas Story immediately come to mind. A film about two transgender sex workers searching Los Angeles for a cheating boyfriend – who also happens to be one of their exploiters – and his lover? That’s definitely not what most people expect. However, though Tangerine might not seem like a typical Christmas movie, it actually has everything you’d want in a perfect holiday film.

Sean Baker’s 2015 film, Tangerine, offers a fresh and quirky look at Christmas. Unusually, the entire movie was shot on iPhones and isn’t suitable for all audiences. Set on a vibrant Christmas Eve in sunny Los Angeles—a far cry from traditional snowy scenes—the story centers on the strong bond between two friends, Sin-Dee and Alexandra. While unique, Tangerine still touches on familiar Christmas ideas like family, love, and the importance of human connection.

Tangerine is a moving, unique, and critically acclaimed film that’s quickly become a modern classic. It was ranked as the top modern Christmas movie by Rotten Tomatoes and landed at No. 4 on their list of the 100 best Christmas movies of all time, earning higher ratings from critics than beloved films like Miracle on 34th Street, It’s a Wonderful Life, and Home Alone.

Where to Stream the Departing Christmas Movies After They Leave Netflix?

Don’t worry, you won’t lose access to these three Christmas movies! While they’re leaving Netflix on December 1st, they’ll still be available elsewhere online. Christmas with the Kranks is moving to HBO Max, and The Night Before will be on Peacock and Tubi. Tangerine isn’t changing platforms next month, and you can already find it on services like Hulu, Disney+, and Peacock.
